When people think about nuclear projects, they often picture engineers and technical specialists. But delivering critical energy infrastructure also depends on professionals who provide the financial insight, reporting, and project controls that keep complex programmes on track.
Bharathi's career has been defined by embracing new opportunities, building new skills, and discovering how her work contributes to projects with long‑term impact.

Finding purpose in a new sector
After starting as a trainee and progressing into a Project Analyst role within the UK Buildings & Places sector, she developed a strong foundation in analysis and reporting. An opportunity to move into a Cost Controller role on the CANDU nuclear project then opened the door to an entirely new industry.
"Moving into the nuclear sector challenged me in ways I never expected. I had to learn new project controls methodologies, stakeholder expectations, and cost management processes in a highly regulated environment."
The transition also brought a deeper sense of purpose.
"Being part of a project that contributes to reliable, low‑carbon energy generation makes the work incredibly meaningful. Knowing my role supports the delivery of critical infrastructure gives me a real sense of pride."
Making an impact behind the scenes

As a Cost Controller, her work focuses on forecasting, reporting, invoicing, and providing insights that help project teams make informed decisions.
For Bharathi, making a difference often comes through small but meaningful improvements.
Whether it's improving reporting accuracy, streamlining a workflow, or providing better project insights, those improvements help teams work smarter and stay aligned.
While the immediate beneficiaries are project managers and stakeholders, the impact extends much further.
The projects we support contribute to reliable and sustainable energy solutions. It's motivating to know that even behind‑the‑scenes work contributes to something much bigger.
A culture of support and belonging
One of the defining aspects of her experience has been the people.
"I first felt I truly belonged when I moved from trainee to a permanent role and was trusted with greater responsibilities," she recalls.
That sense of belonging grew through a collaborative culture where colleagues share knowledge, support one another, and encourage growth.
The support became especially meaningful during a period of personal health challenges.
"My team helped manage priorities, checked in on me, and showed genuine understanding. It reinforced that teamwork here is about more than delivering results, it's about looking after people."
Growing through new opportunities
Although she never expected to work in the nuclear sector, the transition became one of the most valuable experiences of her career.
The role expanded her understanding of project controls, cost management, and strategic decision‑making, while also strengthening their confidence and adaptability.
Today, she manages cost control activities, support client billing, contribute to automation initiatives, and provides insights that help drive project outcomes.
Completing the Certified associate in project management (CAPM) certification in 2025 further broadened her perspective.
"It helped me better understand project management principles and connect them more effectively to my day‑to‑day role."
A career without boundaries
From trainee to Project Analyst and now Cost Controller, Bharathi's journey demonstrates the opportunities available to grow across sectors and disciplines at AtkinsRéalis.
"The organization provides opportunities, but it also encourages you to take ownership of your development. I've been able to explore new domains, learn new skills, and shape my own career path."
The trust placed in her by managers and colleagues gave her the confidence to step outside her comfort zone and embrace a completely new challenge.
Thriving together
A defining part of Bharathi's journey has been feeling supported both professionally and personally.

"When people know their wellbeing, growth, and contributions matter, they become more engaged and confident."
For Bharathi, what started as a trainee opportunity has grown into a career shaped by learning, purpose, and impact.
