Hari's Journey at AtkinsRéalis: A Rail Professional's Perspective

At AtkinsRéalis, we take pride in celebrating the journeys of our employees, whose dedication and expertise play a pivotal role in shaping impactful projects across the globe. Today, we're thrilled to spotlight Hari Jeyaseelan, a senior rail operations consultant in our Transport Advisory team in Australia. Through his story, you'll discover how AtkinsRéalis provides a platform for talented professionals to grow, collaborate across disciplines, and work on meaningful infrastructure projects that benefit society.

Hari's Journey at AtkinsRéalis as a rail operations consultant

From rail operations analyst to senior consultant

Hari's story with AtkinsRéalis began in December 2016, when he joined the company as a Rail Operations Analyst in the Transport Advisory team. After venturing into roles elsewhere, his passion for engineering better solutions led him back to AtkinsRéalis in March 2022, where he rejoined as a Consultant for the same team.

His decision to return was fueled by the unique opportunities AtkinsRéalis provides. "I joined AtkinsRéalis as I was eager to develop my skills working for a global engineering consulting firm," Hari explains. "It's the best place to apply my expertise to major engineering projects that help shape a better future for our planet and its people."

Now, Hari plays a critical role in supporting rail infrastructure projects in Queensland, Australia, including noteworthy initiatives such as Cross River Rail, Logan to Gold Coast Faster Rail, and Direct Sunshine Coast. His contributions are central to advising the state on how these projects can effectively deliver the desired operational outcomes that benefit the broader public, which helps ensure the success of these transformative projects.

A day in the life of Hari

Working as part of AtkinsRéalis' Transport Advisory team, no two days are the same for Hari. His role involves engaging with multiple stakeholders across projects, analyzing complex rail operations data, and providing strategic solutions to optimise efficiency and functionality.

"A typical day sees me collaborating with clients, analysing operational models, and ensuring that the projects I'm working on meet their objectives," says Hari. His ability to provide solid operational advice helps steer projects toward successful and sustainable outcomes that meet Queensland's growing transport needs.

The power of collaboration

When asked what he enjoys most about working at AtkinsRéalis, Hari highlights the people. "The aspect of my role that I enjoy the most is honestly the people. I'm lucky to work with dedicated professionals who have great personalities and are passionate about their jobs and their ability to engineer a better future."

It's no secret that an inspiring work environment, supported by talented and motivated colleagues, creates a unique sense of belonging. Hari credits this as being one of the most important factors in his continued career satisfaction at AtkinsRéalis.

Driving impactful outcomes

Hari's involvement in influential infrastructure projects keeps him motivated. "The variety of work I'm involved in keeps me engaged," he says. "Contributing to projects that have a beneficial impact on broader society, even as a small part of a larger team, is an incredibly rewarding experience."

Through projects like Cross River Rail, which aims to enhance transport capacity and connectivity in Brisbane, Hari's work exemplifies how engineering solutions contribute to better communities and sustainable development.

Growth at AtkinsRéalis

AtkinsRéalis' emphasis on employee development stands out in Hari's experience. The company's diverse teams and collaborative environment have allowed him to build expertise in rail operations consulting, particularly in evaluating the operational effectiveness of infrastructure projects and their broader network impact.

"Working for a large organization like AtkinsRéalis means I can contribute to diverse projects and learn from many professionals with specialised knowledge," says Hari. This exposure has been instrumental in shaping his career and expanding his skillset.

A well-rounded life outside of work

Outside of work, Hari enjoys maintaining an active lifestyle with activities like running, swimming, and playing squash. Recently, he started playing squash with colleagues, which not only helps him stay fit but also fosters deeper connections with his teammates.

Hari is also an avid traveller who loves exploring diverse landscapes and cultures, viewing travel as an opportunity to experience the richness of the world.

"I value the balance AtkinsRéalis offers," Hari notes. "It allows me to nurture my passions outside of work while being fully committed to my projects."

Looking ahead

Professionally, Hari aspires to deepen his specialisation in rail operations consulting while exploring how other disciplines at AtkinsRéalis complement his expertise. Personally, having recently relocated to Brisbane, he's eager to establish new connections and immerse himself in the vibrant culture of his new home city.

Hari's journey at AtkinsRéalis highlights how we empower professionals to build meaningful careers while contributing to transformative projects that make a difference.
