I used my Civil Engineering Degree Apprenticeship to improve my hometown's transportation!

I'm Jon, an Apprentice Engineer in Highway Transportation at AtkinsRéalis. I help to plan, design, and maintain road infrastructure. Working on highway projects, conducting site surveys, and supporting engineering teams—I've gained hands-on experience ensuring safe and efficient transportation networks.

What has been the best part of your apprenticeship?

Incorporating my learning within my work in real-time and applying my work experience to my learning.

What do you like about being an apprentice #InsideAtkinsRéalis?

I have always felt highly valued in my team. I always had the support I needed to finish my apprenticeship, and I have been given the opportunities to excel in this role.

What's your Top Tip for those considering an apprenticeship?

To succeed in the apprenticeship, make sure you're always learning. The key is to always ask questions and seek out all the experience you can.

How are you engineering a better future for our planet and its people?

As soon as I joined AtkinsRéalis, I said yes to the opportunity to work on a project with Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council. I grew up in Solihull, so I was keen to be involved in this project. I felt proud to improve and develop the area's places and spaces. Since then, I've worked with numerous other local authorities, such as Birmingham, where I work, and Coventry, where I studied.

How do you feel supported working at AtkinsRéalis?

I've always been supported by everyone I've worked with at AtkinsRéalis. Not only by my Line Manager or Project Manager but also by others within my team, whether they have more or less experience than me. It is always great discussing each other's opportunities and learning from other's insights.

Join the best and the brightest, and let's engineer a better world together. Explore AtkinsRéalis Degree Apprenticeships.
