Leading with integrity: kavery’s journey at AtkinsRéalis

At AtkinsRéalis, integrity isn't just one of our values, it's the foundation of how we do business. Guiding this principle is a dedicated network of professionals across the globe. One such leader is Kavery Cariappa, our Integrity Program Manager based in Bangalore. From legal contracts to global compliance oversight, her career journey is a story of purpose, progress, and people-first leadership.

Here's her story in her own words.

Leading with integrity: kavery’s journey at AtkinsRéalis

Where it all began

With a major in law, my career began at a startup where I focused on contract reviews—spotting and addressing potential issues in client contracts. This initial exposure helped me develop a keen eye for detail and built the foundation for a career rooted in integrity and compliance.

Journey of growth at AtkinsRéalis

Leading with integrity: kavery’s journey at AtkinsRéalis

Since joining AtkinsRéalis in 2018, I've taken on several roles—Compliance Adviser, Senior Compliance Advisor, and Lead of the Compliance Assessment Team—before stepping into my current position as Integrity Program Manager. I now lead a team of four in Bangalore and support two colleagues in Romania, reporting to Vlad, our Director of Operational Excellence – Integrity & Sustainability.

Creating impact through integrity

My work spans critical areas like third-party due diligence, integrity assessments, supplier onboarding, and risk management. I've also been deeply involved in developing tools that support compliance tracking, vendor assessments, and data analytics—ensuring that our systems grow smarter and more efficient over time.

Learning from leaders

I've had the opportunity to work with incredible mentors. Patricia, our VP of Integrity & Sustainability, has been a role model whose ambition and leadership I deeply admire. Vlad's depth of knowledge and steady guidance have also played a vital role in my growth here. Their support and trust have shaped my journey in meaningful ways.

Returning with confidence

Coming back from a six-month maternity break was a significant transition. But thanks to a supportive environment at AtkinsRéalis—and the encouragement of my leaders—I was able to reintegrate with confidence. The flexibility, empathy, and empowerment I experienced during this phase meant the world to me.

Empowering women to lead

What truly sets AtkinsRéalis apart is its commitment to empowering women. Being part of that culture has been both motivating and empowering.

Life beyond the role

Leading with integrity: kavery’s journey at AtkinsRéalis

On a personal note, I dabble in a delightful mix of activities that sprinkle joy and relaxation into my life. Whether it's diving into a good book, whipping up a favorite dish, or hitting the trails for a refreshing hike, I find these pastimes incredibly fulfilling. Hiking, in particular, offers a rejuvenating escape from the daily grind, letting me bask in nature, stay fit, and discover scenic wonders. But as a new mum, my top hobby has become crafting new games with my son and reveling in his laughter—it's the ultimate stress buster!

Staying rooted in purpose

Looking back, I value every challenge, every learning curve, and every opportunity to grow. I believe that staying connected to your purpose, adapting to change, and turning obstacles into opportunities are the keys to long-term success. Keep growing and everything else will follow.
