Making space for growth, family and ambition: Shruthi’s story

From professional milestones to personal achievements, Shruthi’s story is one of resilience, continuous learning and the power of being supported every step of the way. For her, growth has been about embracing new challenges, pushing boundaries, and finding the confidence to evolve both professionally and personally. A Chartered Accountant, Company Secretary and Cost Accountant, Shruthi brings over ten years of experience in finance. Since joining AtkinsRéalis in August 2022, she has been part of the Divisional Finance team in Bengaluru, supporting the UK's Transportation and Complex Projects business. Most recently, she stepped into a new role as Assistant Financial Controller supporting Complex Projects, marking another important chapter in her career journey.

Outside of work, Shruthi has a passion for exploration. A self‑described thalassophile, she loves the ocean and enjoys scuba diving, with memorable dives in the Andaman Islands and the Maldives ranking among her favourite experiences. 

A first impression that lasted 

During her interview process, she was navigating a difficult family situation. And at that time, the support, understanding and empathy she experienced throughout the recruitment process stood out immediately. What has kept her here, she says, is that the same culture of care has remained unchanged. "The team's values and extensive support system have been constant throughout my journey." That sense of support has shaped her experience over the past four years, helping her navigate career growth, personal milestones and new responsibilities with confidence.

A culture that makes a difference 

Shruthi describes the culture at AtkinsRéalis as supportive, collaborative, challenging and filled with learning opportunities. For her, one of the most meaningful examples of this culture has been the flexibility provided during and after her maternity journey. Returning to work as a new mother came with its own challenges, but the support she received made a significant difference. The flexible work environment enabled her to continue progressing in her career while also being present for her family when it mattered most. Experiences like these have reinforced her belief that a supportive workplace can have a meaningful impact on both professional and personal success. 

Learning never stops 

One of Shruthi's proudest achievements is completing a significant professional milestone after joining AtkinsRéalis. While on maternity leave, she continued preparing for her Chartered Accountancy Final examinations and successfully cleared the group in January 2026. With encouragement from her manager and leadership team, she was able to balance work responsibilities, family commitments and her studies.

Her growth journey extends beyond technical expertise. Through the AtkinsRéalis Achievers Toastmasters Club, she completed all five levels of the Presentation Mastery pathway, becoming the first member of the club to do so. She also earned recognition in evaluation competitions, strengthening her communication and public speaking skills along the way. Today, those skills help her confidently engage with stakeholders, collaborate across teams and speak in larger forums such as town halls.

Growing through collaboration 

Shruthi credits much of her development to working with diverse colleagues, learning from different perspectives and collaborating with teams across geographies. Whether solving business challenges or sharing ideas, she believes that understanding different viewpoints leads to stronger outcomes and continuous learning. She also values the leadership culture at AtkinsRéalis, where leaders demonstrate empathy, clear communication and a genuine commitment to supporting their teams.

Looking ahead 

As AtkinsRéalis continues to expand and strengthen its presence globally, Shruthi is excited about what the future holds. She sees the company continuing to grow into new markets while creating even more opportunities for employees to learn, contribute and thrive.
