Celebrating working mothers in India

Sameera Shaik

Recruitment Lead, Bangalore

“I feel seen, supported, and valued not just as a professional—but as a mother too.”

Sameera has been part of AtkinsRéalis for eight years, but her most transformative chapter began when she welcomed her baby daughter into the world. Like many new mothers, she faced the challenge of balancing her newborn’s needs with the demands of a thriving recruitment role.

“There were nights when I barely slept and days when I had to be on calls while soothing a crying baby. It wasn’t easy, but it taught me patience, prioritization, and grace.”

What made a true difference was the unwavering support she received. Thanks to flexible work arrangements and a deeply understanding team, Sameera was able to ease back into her role—without guilt or fear.

Her message to other moms is full of encouragement:

" You’re stronger than you know. Don’t let the occasional chaos discourage you—it’s all part of the journey. Celebrate the small wins, whether it’s finishing a project on time or simply surviving a tough day. And remember, asking for help is not a sign of weakness but of wisdom. You’re teaching your child not just to thrive in the world but also to value balance and love."

Snigdha Sharma

Associate Practice Manager, Bangalore

“AtkinsRéalis didn’t just support me—they empowered me to lead, even as a new mother.”

With over 15 years of experience, Snigdha has made a mark in the field of architecture and landscape planning. She also leads a growing team while raising her 2.5-year-old daughter, Nivira.

For Snigdha, the journey of balancing both roles hasn’t always been easy. There were moments when back-to-back meetings collided with story time or when work travel required extra planning. But through it all, she stayed committed—and so did her organization.

“When Nivira was just a toddler, I was offered a secondment opportunity. There were no assumptions, no doubts about my ability to deliver. That kind of trust stays with you,”

Manju Govindan

Associate Principal Engineer, Bangalore

“My career never stagnated—because here, I was never treated differently for being a mother.”

Manju is a true example of what long-term support and trust can achieve. Having spent 17 years at AtkinsRéalis, she has grown through every life stage—from chartership to leadership—and now balances two young children Swathi and Tharun, while leading the bridges market across the ME and APAC regions.

Being a mother of two—aged 2.5 and 4 comes with daily challenges, but Manju credits her journey to the flexibility and encouragement she received from leadership.

“I’ve had two maternity breaks, and every time, I felt encouraged to return stronger. The faith my seniors placed in me pushed me to keep giving my best.”

Poornima Vibin

Senior Account Lead, Bangalore

" I felt respected, empowered, and heard every step of the way. I’m deeply grateful to be part of an organization that stands by its people during such a meaningful phase of life."

Returning to work after a seven-month maternity break came with a mix of emotions—excitement, anxiety, and the challenge of balancing a growing child with professional responsibilities. There were days filled with back-to-back meetings and moments when a crying baby needed comfort.

What made all the difference was the support received from leadership. Initial concerns about flexibility quickly gave way to reassurance. Requests were met with empathy, not hesitation, allowing her to re-enter the workplace with confidence.

Her message to fellow mothers is simple and powerful:

“Do everything you need to for your child, but don’t give up on your passion. There’s no perfect way to parent—just your way. You are enough.”

These stories are more than just reflections of personal strength. They are a testament to what happens when organizations walk the talk—and create workplaces that allow women to grow in all aspects of life.
