Sagar’s journey at AtkinsRéalis: Story of reinvention and leadership

Some careers follow a straight line. Sagar’s took a few bold turns, and each one added something new. He started his career as a UI/UX designer, shifted to recruitment, explored tech systems, and today, he leads global HR systems and efficiencies at AtkinsRéalis. His story is proof that following your instincts can lead to growth you never expected.

Here’s Sagar’s journey, in his own words.

Where it all began: A designer at heart

I began my career as a UI/UX designer. That world of wireframes, user journeys, and intuitive interfaces taught me the importance of empathy in design and problem solving.

But soon, I was drawn toward something bigger. I moved into operations and talent acquisition for a unit in one of India’s largest e-commerce companies. The shift was massive, but it helped me understand how business functions really run. By the time I left, I was a senior executive handling people, processes, and everything in between.

Taking a pause, then a pivot

After several years, I took a step back to think about whether my career still aligned with who I was and what I wanted to build. That reflection pushed me toward IT recruitment at a staffing firm. I supported hiring across the U.S. and Canada, and later managed recruitment for automotive clients in India.

It gave me clarity, focus, and experience working across markets—plus a deeper appreciation for the systems behind hiring.

Finding a new home at AtkinsRéalis

In 2021, I came across an opportunity at AtkinsRéalis. I wasn’t actively looking for a change, but something about the conversations I had during the interview process struck a chord. People spoke with honesty and heart—and I knew this was a place I wanted to grow in.

I joined as a recruitment lead for the UK F+G (now PPS) business. From day one, it felt like collaboration was built into the culture. I got to partner with engineers, directors, and everyone in between. It was about more than hiring—it was about building relationships and adding value.

Building and rebuilding talent functions

Soon, the HR function started evolving, and I was asked to help lead that transformation. Together with a project manager, I set up our entire talent acquisition (TA) function in an offshore model. It was challenging but deeply rewarding. We weren’t just meeting needs—we were shaping the future of TA at a global level.

After that, I moved into a systems-focused role—managing enhancements across recruitment and onboarding platforms. It felt like a full-circle moment: combining my design mindset, TA knowledge, and tech enthusiasm into one role.

Growing into global strategy

As I kept pushing myself, I was entrusted with leading a team supporting recruitment transactions worldwide. It taught me how processes and people come together to create lasting impact.

Now, I’m stepping into my newest role—overseeing HR systems and process efficiencies across regions, including our Centres of Excellence (COEs). I’ll be aligning with IT roadmaps and supporting our shared services hub, PeopleHub. It’s a huge step, but I’m excited to build solutions that truly scale.

Beyond the desk

Outside work, I’m a proud dad and a devoted pet parent. Most of my downtime is spent with my toddler—who keeps our home full of laughter and chaos in the best way.

I’m also a lifelong motorhead. I spent my college days in garages, fixing up bikes and soaking in engine grease. Today, I still find joy in long drives with a metal playlist playing full blast.

My journey is just one of many at AtkinsRéalis.
