I couldn't stay away: Why AtkinsRéalis is the best place for women engineers this IWD2025!

I left AtkinsRéalis—but came back! Here's why it's the best place to grow your engineering career.

Hi, my name is Britty. I'm a Chartered Water and Environmental Manager based in Bengaluru. I have over seven years of engineering experience in the water and wastewater industry and work in the Global Technology Centre team. 2025 has been a great year for me already—this January, I returned home to AtkinsRéalis and achieved my chartership!

In the spirit of our International Women's Day celebrations this year, I want to share my story and why I think AtkinsRéalis is the perfect place for women to grow their careers.

Why I choose AtkinsRéalis (again) for my engineering career

I joined AtkinsRéalis as a flood modeller in 2018 and soon moved into drainage engineering. After leaving for a two-year stint at another global consultancy, I rejoined, missing the challenging projects and professional development opportunities at AtkinsRéalis. Working here allows me to contribute to meaningful initiatives that make a real difference in global communities. For example, I currently lead wastewater modelling for Ireland framework projects here in Bengaluru!

How AtkinsRéalis supports working mothers in engineering

Here at AtkinsRéalis, we have a family-friendly culture where women really thrive in their roles. As a working mother, my biggest piece of advice is: Don't hesitate to ask for support. Set realistic expectations for yourself, stay organized, and remember that it's okay not to be perfect all the time. Balance is a journey and every small step counts. Here's how AtkinsRéalis supports equality, diversity and inclusion.

How AtkinsRéalis supports professional development for women engineers

It has given me the confidence to face exciting challenges and say "Yes!" to bigger opportunities. Advice for graduates from an experienced engineer

I started out as a Graduate Engineer. During my career, I've enjoyed opportunities on a diverse range of water projects—from river modelling to rail and highway drainage design and wastewater modelling. If you're reading this and at the beginning of your journey, I'd say to you: Never give up. Try your best no matter what you're involved in, and most importantly, find an employer who will support your continuous learning. Learn about early careers at AtkinsRéalis.
