Meet The Team – Early Careers Professionals
Sam, Electro-Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship
My name is Sam, and I've been an apprentice on the ADS&T (Aerospace, Defence, Security, and Technology) team for two years, having joined AtkinsRéalis straight after sixth form. My favorite part of the programme is the block release weeks at Warwick University, where my cohort studies on campus six times a year. These intense but fun weeks offer a great chance to bond with fellow apprentices. The best thing about being an apprentice at AtkinsRéalis is the responsibility I've gained early in my career. I've had the chance to lead teams and take ownership of various projects, always with strong support to ensure I'm never out of my depth. One of the most exciting projects I've worked on is supporting the RAF's new additive manufacturing facility, where I researched methods and standards for producing aircraft parts. My advice to future apprentices? Be open to all the opportunities AtkinsRéalis offers—you never know what might spark your interest.
Daniel, Mechanical Engineering Graduate
Hi, I'm Daniel, a graduate in the Aerospace, Defence, Security, and Technology (ADS&T) team. And I primarily work on aerospace projects. I'm passionate about the future of flight. I've worked on some groundbreaking projects at AtkinsRéalis, like conducting structural analysis for an electric motor on a new eVTOL (Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing) aircraft. The best part of working at AtkinsRéalis is the variety of exciting projects and the opportunity to collaborate with passionate colleagues from different business areas. My advice to new graduates? Networking is key—get involved, and opportunities will come your way! With a background in Aeronautical Engineering, I've developed my skills in areas like static analysis and finite element analysis. I also value the volunteering opportunities at AtkinsRéalis, like running the Net Zero Superheroes programme in schools, which allows me to inspire the next generation of engineers.
Sardor, Transformation, Delivery & Consulting Graduate
My name is Sardor, and I'm a Junior Consultant at AtkinsRéalis, working within the Business Consultancy and Advisory practice in ADS&T (Aerospace, Defence, Security & Technology). My role has allowed me to work on diverse projects, from infrastructure and transportation to internal capability improvements, which has been both rewarding and enriching. The variety of projects has sharpened my technical skills and taught me to adapt and innovate. What I love most about working at AtkinsRéalis is the inclusive company culture. The support, training opportunities, and emphasis on work-life balance have created an environment where I can thrive. My advice to new graduates is to stay open to new opportunities, take ownership of your tasks, and embrace collaboration. It's okay to fail—just learn quickly and keep moving forward. I'm excited to continue growing my expertise in business analysis and contribute to projects that make a positive impact on the world.
Oscar, Data & Artificial Intelligence Graduate
I'm Oscar, a Data Scientist in the ADS&T (Aerospace, Defence, Security, and Technology) team. My favorite project has been working in a small team on an optimization service for a water industry client. Building a tool from scratch and exploring a new domain has been exciting. The best things about working for AtkinsRéalis are the variety of projects, flexibility, and amazing colleagues. Plus, our work has a tangible impact on the planet's climate and people. I've been encouraged to try new things and challenge myself, which has given me a broader range of experience than I expected at this stage. This variety helps me approach and solve problems from different perspectives. Raheema, Geospatial & Geomatics Graduate & Former Placement Student
My name is Raheema, and I'm a graduate GIS analyst in the ADS&T (Aerospace, Defence, Security, and Technology) team. My favorite experience has been developing and testing our bespoke spatial data platform, SpatialCDE. This project has allowed me to refine my technical skills and apply my knowledge to deliver the best possible experience for our clients. I've also had the opportunity to provide internal technical support as a Super User of the platform. The most valuable part of being a graduate at AtkinsRéalis is working with an incredibly talented and innovative team on both UK and international projects. I've built a strong network of professional contacts, which has helped me grow and put myself forward for new opportunities. Our projects
The road trip of the future
We’ve helped our partners in the automotive and technology sectors move a step closer to the safe and secure rollout of connected and autonomous vehicles.
We were appointed as cyber-security lead on the Nissan-led, cross-industry collaboration called HumanDrive.
The aim was to develop a driverless car capable of navigating its way along Britain’s roads, including its country lanes and complex junctions.
We identified and assessed potential threats to the cyber security of the vehicle and developed a framework that could help the ecosystem develop more secure technology.
New training aircraft
Many of our projects are extraordinary.
For example, our team is advising our client, AERALIS, on the design and development of the UK’s first whole jet aircraft since the mid-1980s.
The aircraft, which will be used to train cadets to front-line pilots on advanced combat aircraft systems, are modular and, therefore, can be adapted to meet customers’ needs.
They’re also being developed using innovative technologies, including digital twins.
Preparing to take-off: Zero Emission Aircraft
We’re working with the UK’s Electric Aviation Group (EAG) to accelerate the development of commercial-scale, zero carbon and zero nitrogen oxide emission aircraft.
EAG plans to power its plane – H2ERA – with hybrid hydrogen-electric technology.
The company hopes its aircraft will be in the skies by 2030, which would make it the world’s “first true zero 90-seater” hydrogen electric regional aircraft. We’re providing a range of support, including business advisory services, safety assessments and specifications, integration and certification.
Streamlining airport operations
Could you help the operator of one of the world’s busiest airports speed up passengers’ journeys and increase the efficiency of its operations?
We’re working with Heathrow Airport Limited to increase automation across its terminals, including extending the use of biometrically enabled self-boarding gates and the IT that underpins them.
The improvements will reduce delays and enhance travellers’ experience.
