Intermediate Plumbing Engineer

Overview

The Engineering Services group provides mechanical and electrical design for all types of buildings in the commercial, light industrial, institutional, recreational. Our clients and projects and varied and diverse. The office is a high energy workspace where we work closely as a team to meet the requirements and deadlines of our clients.

We are looking for an Intermediate Plumbing Engineer with experience in Plumbing design for many types of buildings to join our growing team to work on one of the Canadian airport projects. This is a regular full time permanent position 100% based at client's site in Toronto.

Your role

  • Provides advice, guidance and subject matter expertise throughout the planning, design, and delivery of the program as it relates to plumbing / utility systems design and construction including compliance with all relevant codes and standards.
  • Ensures that plumbing / utility systems design and construction comply with technical requirements, including design reviews, submittal reviews, and testing.
  • Conducting Facility Alteration Permit (FAP) compliance reviews for all proposed renovations, alterations, maintenance work and new construction.
  • Providing non-resident engineering expertise through field inspections during various stages of construction.
  • Support the development of governance and process documentation with respect to the program's practices for plumbing / utility systems engineering.
  • Assesses alternative technical proposals submitted by the contractor and provides feedback as to the feasibility of the proposal and alignment to client requirements.
  • Coordinates the technical elements of the program with respect to plumbing / utility systems engineering including establishing targets / goals for the program.
  • Coordinates the interface between other engineering and architectural disciplines to ensure integration and coordination across programs, facilities, and assets.
  • Reviews deliverables submitted by the contractor / designer and confirms compliance to the relevant requirements, codes, and standards.
  • Monitors the input of the designer throughout the construction phase (RFIs, shop drawings, material approvals, mock-up approvals, punch list, etc.
  • Provides Management level progress reports and briefings with respect to plumbing / utility systems design progress, issues, and opportunities.
  • Coaching, mentoring, and supporting the career development of staff.

About you

  • Recognized Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Registered as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • Minimum of 7 years experience in the design, construction and commissioning of plumbing and utility systems within a major capital project / program.
  • Aviation experience is considered an asset.
  • Experience of defining functional and technical specifications in line with business requirements and thorough working knowledge of requirements management.
  • Knowledge of scope definition, project planning, cost estimation, and scheduling, testing, commissioning, project turn over, quality control and reporting.
  • Understanding of stakeholder / regulatory requirements including but not limited to ICAO, Transport Canada Aerodrome Standards, airport operations (includes tenants, airlines, and travelers), HRDC (Fire Commissioner of Canada), Underwriters Laboratories (ULC), Code Consultants, and Health & Safety Consultants.
  • Knowledge of Combustion, Fuel, Rotating Equipment, Mechanical Systems, Industrial Machinery, and Pressure Vessel regulations, codes, laws, and technology limitations. This is not an exhaustive list but is provided as indicative.
  • Knowledge of ISO 55001 Asset Management standard.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer applications including, but not limited to Microsoft Office 365, project scheduling software, Maximo, ProjectWise, Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning, Bluebeam, Revit, AutoCAD and MicroStation.
  • Good stakeholder engagement and communication skills including the ability to facilitate meeting / workshops with large groups of stakeholders.

Expected compensation for this role is between Pay Range $90,000 - $120,000 annually (Only Applicable to Ontario). Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role.
