Overview

Power Grid Division is involved in electricity utilities sector in the UK & I, Canada, US, ME and APAC. We provide value-added engineering services and build solutions across the entire spectrum of electricity networks, from high voltage power transmission grids to low voltage industrial power distribution. We have designed HV Substations up to 400kV and Electrical infrastructure for large industrial/ Multi Use developments and Heavy industries. The team provides services to clients across the globe; however, the major clients are in UK and Middle East.

The Power T&D team is looking for experienced Principal engineers in HV Plant Discipline, as we look to grow the team in line with business requirements. We are looking for experienced engineers for mid to senior level role in 'Overhead Lines' design for transmission and distribution projects as we look to grow the team in line with business requirements. Using your experience and knowledge, you will be leading the delivery of a variety of projects drawing upon the wider team for the technical engineering requirements and building a strong relationship with our clients. You will be client-facing, responsible for the delivery of our work and making sure it meets our client's'expectations. This role will be based at our AtkinsRéalis office in Bangalore, Mumbai, Gurgaon in India.

Your role

  • Perform detailed engineering and design of overhead transmission lines ranging from HV, EHV, and UHV voltage levels.
  • Develop transmission line models using PLS-CADD and perform:
  • Route selection and optimization
  • Sag-tension calculations
  • Clearance analysis
  • Structure spotting
  • Material and construction reports
  • Conduct structural analysis and design of transmission line structures using:
  • PLS-TOWER for lattice steel towers
  • PLS-POLE for steel, concrete, and composite poles
  • Evaluate and apply loading criteria in accordance with applicable standards such as ASCE, IEC, IS, NESC, CSA, ECCS or utility-specific requirements.
  • Review and optimize structure loading, member utilization, and structural adequacy.
  • Prepare and review transmission line design deliverables including:
  • Design reports
  • Structure loading trees
  • Sag-tension reports
  • Tower schedules
  • Stringing charts
  • Material take-offs (MTOs) Coordinate with foundation, civil, geotechnical, and survey teams to ensure design compatibility.
  • Support proposal development, estimation, and technical bid evaluations.
  • Perform design checks and peer reviews to ensure compliance with quality standards and project requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
  • Interface with clients, utilities, and project stakeholders for design reviews and technical discussions.

About you

  • Strong conceptualization ability, strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills are a must, including the capability to explain complex technical issues to decision-makers and project teams.
  • Candidate must have good oral and written communication skills, be willing to travel, and work successfully in a customer focused, project-oriented environment.
  • Bachelor's Degree/ master's degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, electrical engineering.
  • 10–15 years of experience in transmission line design and engineering.
  • Proven expertise in: PLS-CADD, PLS-TOWER, PLS-POLE
  • Strong understanding of transmission line design principles, structure spotting, and line optimization.
  • Experience with steel lattice towers, monopoles, H-Frame structures, and tubular steel structures.
  • Familiarity with international design codes and utility standards.
  • Ability to independently execute transmission line engineering projects from concept through detailed design.
