Overview
The Systems Assurance Engineer ensures the safety, reliability, and quality of systems) for rail projects from concept through entry into service and early operations. This role involves conducting risk assessments, developing assurance plans, and coordinating with various teams to address assurance issues. Minimum 8-10 years of experience in relevant field.
Your role
- Conduct system assurance activities, including safety, reliability, and quality assurance.
- Develop and implement assurance plans and procedures.
- Establish the compliance matrix against EN 50126‑1/‑2 (IEC 62278), EN 50128 (IEC 62279), EN 50129, and EN 50159 where applicable; align with CSM‑RA (EU 402/2013) and ISO 31000 risk management.
- Perform risk assessments and hazard analyses.
- FMECA/FMEA, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Event Tree Analysis (ETA), Bow‑Tie, and Common Cause/Common Mode analyses.
- Perform SIL allocation (where relevant) and define risk controls, safety requirements, and verification measures.
- Drive ALARP demonstrations and document risk acceptance (similar reference systems, explicit risk estimation, codes of practice).
- Develop and maintain the Safety Case (or Safety Justification)
- Set up and manage FRACAS/DRACAS; analyse defect/failure data and trend corrective actions.
- Coordinate with Independent Safety Assessor/Assessment Body (ISA/AsBo/NoBo/DeBo) and respond to findings.
- Work closely with signalling/ETCS/CBTC, rolling stock, power & traction, platform systems, SCADA/telecoms (CCTV, PA, radio), stations/MEP, and operations/maintenance teams to embed RAMS requirements.
- Conduct audits and reviews of system assurance processes.
- Identify and mitigate potential risks in system designs.
- Provide training and support on assurance processes to project teams.
- Maintain documentation of assurance activities and findings.

About you
- Bachelor'S or master's'in electrical/Electronic/Control/Systems/Mechanical/Industrial Engineering (or related).
- 8–10 years of RAMS experience in rail (one or more: mainline, metro, high‑speed, freight, depots).
- Knowledge of safety and reliability standards (e.g., CENELEC, ISO, EN).
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with risk management and mitigation.
- Familiarity with quality assurance methodologies.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- RAM/Safety Analysis: Isograph, Fault Tree+
- Requirements & V&V: IBM DOORS/DOORS Next
- MBSE Tools such as IBM Rhapsody
