Senior Control & Instrumentation Engineer

Overview

Our Nuclear division is a leading consultancy providing multi-disciplinary engineering support services to all project stages, from concept through to completion, to owners, operators, regulators and suppliers to a diversified set of clients. Within the Nuclear sector, we are involved across the whole life cycle of the civil nuclear industry, building the next generation of civil nuclear power stations and the first large scale prototype fusion reactor, meeting the challenge of keeping the current nuclear fleet operational and tackling complex decommissioning projects. With existing relationships with the major operators in the Nuclear and Power sector, we offer a hugely stimulating variety of work, within a team which is rapidly developing to support the delivery of new nuclear build, maintaining the existing nuclear and power generating assets and building net zero energy capabilities. Our projects are on a global scale with opportunities across the UK, Europe, North America, Canada and the Middle East, across a range of projects.

To meet the increasing demand of our expertise in the nuclear industry and renewables sector, now we have opportunities for Senior C&I Engineers with experience ranging from 8-15 years, with demonstratable experience in C&I engineering to join the Nuclear team at our AtkinsRéalis India offices.

We are particularly interested in individuals with reasonable consultancy/contracting experience. Previous power, oil and gas or nuclear experience is desirable, but not essential, particularly with suitable demonstration of experience in a highly regulated industry (e.g. Oil and Gas, Pharmaceutical).

Your role

  • The work is varied and may include some or all the responsibilities mentioned below:

  • Develop a variety of C&I design documents such as design drawings, technical specifications, design basis, calculations, instrument selection with a high level of competence and minimal oversight.

  • Work efficiently to ensure that the project schedules and budgets are met.

  • Work independently and collaborate across disciplines and teams to meet project goals.

  • Develop and perform quality reviews for detailed design documents.

  • Prepare and review control deliverables such as Control Narratives, Cause and Effect Diagrams, System Architecture Diagrams, Instrument Location Layouts, Installation Details, Wiring & Interconnection Diagrams, PLC Layouts, and Loop Drawings.

  • Prepare C&I lists such as equipment list, IO list, I/O assignment, Instrument Index, Serial Interface list, cable list, etc.

  • Perform instrument sizing calculations and selection.

  • Developing and reviewing Instrumentation Datasheets for instruments and valves.

  • Provide configuration of and programming of controls equipment, including PLCs, HMIs, DCS Systems, etc.

  • Participate in client and project review meetings.

  • Preparation of reports such as Feasibility Study, Concept Design Reports, etc.

  • Liaising with all stakeholders and responsible for all technical issues related to their area of specialization.

  • Co-ordination with other discipline specialists where areas interface or overlap exist.

About you

The candidate should possess the following qualifications, skills and experience.

Suitable degree in Control and Instrumentation with domain experience in energy systems. Experience in detail engineering consultancy is preferred.

8- 15 years of work experience in Control and Instrumentation engineering.

Experience in Nuclear, Power, Oil & Gas or other highly regulated industrial environment preferred.

Experience of working on UK, Canada, USA and Middle East projects.

Experience in some of the areas below:

Instrumentation and process automation systems applications and selection.

Design of software and hardware-based C&I systems.

C&I control system concepts from early requirements through to detailed design.

AutoCAD, Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI), Plant 3D or AVEVA and other design program competence.

Experience in providing technical advisory, feasibility, owner's'engineer, concept development or Pre-FEED.

Knowledge of Power Plant design and various systems associated with power plants i.e., Boiler, Turbine, Generator and Balance of Plant systems.

Commissioning experience will be an added advantage.

Experience on digital or AI tools in C&I design.

Experience in PLC, DCS, SCADA based systems and HMI development.Experience in process control systems.

Conversant with international design codes and standards.

Good knowledge of industrial communication standard protocols.

Awareness of Digital Twin technologies and their applicability in control system design, with the ability to recommend suitable approaches during concept development.

Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles for industrial control systems, ensuring early‑stage design considerations aligning with client expectations.

Design knowledge of access control systems, CCTV system, telephone, and PA system.

Good knowledge of Hazardous Area Classification and various protection.

Ability to mentor junior engineers and support them with technical guidance.

Maintain and update personal knowledge of current industry trends and technology.

Proven strong problem solving, organizational and interpersonal skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills with a proven ability to write accurate, detailed and concise technical reports.

Flexible to relocate to AtkinsRéalis India Office Locations (Bangalore/Gurgaon/Mumbai) flexible in travelling to AtkinsRéalis' and client's'office locations around the world, if required.
