Overview
Are you ready to take up a vital role in shaping some of our exciting projects? How about joining as Senior Engineer in our talented Highways and Asset Services team based within Buckinghamshire Highways. We are looking to build upon our success and expand our successful Highways team and are seeking an Engineer to lead projects of varying sizes & scopes.
You will be pivotal in leading and implementing ideas that maintain and enhance the local network through working closely within the Buckinghamshire Highways Alliance and developing and delivering schemes. The works will include new schemes as well as major planned maintenance projects including active travel, carriageway, footways, drainage and safety schemes and you'll be part of the collaborative design teams based in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. You will feel a great sense of pride in shaping high-quality designs across new build, renewal, maintenance, and assessment works and working with Alliance Partners to have a positive and sustainable impact on the network.
Whilst we offer flexible working policies, this role would require you to be base in our Aylesbury office a minimum of 3 days per week.
Your role
- Leading technical delivery of highway engineering projects.
- Deliver work packages with scope to move up to managing schemes and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Provide support to Project Managers within the delivery team(s) in planning, programming, technical input to the pricing of project briefs, proposals, deliverables and cost estimation.
- Be accountable for checking, reviewing, and authorising for issue: designs, documents, approvals, and reports.
- Manage Engineers, Graduate Engineers and Technicians to deliver work packages - coordinating engineering resources including with GTC, India.
- Maintain and develop excellent relationships and work collaboratively with clients and key stakeholders to deliver schemes/projects.
- Mentor and upskill more junior staff helping them develop professionally and progress towards professional qualifications.
- Be responsible for the preparation of feasibility studies, technical reports, detailed designs and production of contract documents across a variety of projects.
- Help seek innovative solutions in achieving best value in delivering our services and promote knowledge lesson learning environment.

About you
- A BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) and preferably Incorporated or Chartered Engineer.
- Demonstrable and significant experience in highway design working in accordance with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges and other standards/best practice guidance.
- Proven ability to mentor and develop team members.
- Experience in major carriageway maintenance delivery would be desirable.
- An understanding of the commercial aspects of project delivery.
- An extensive knowledge and understanding of the relevant legislation, standards and procedures including the application of departures from standard.
- NEC4 and/or Project Management experience (advantageous).
- Be a leader of Health & Safety principles within civil engineering design and construction.
- The ability to work under your own initiative and to seek advice when necessary.
- Enjoy a challenge and be curious and flexible about finding solutions to achieve the best outcome.
