Overview
AtkinsRéalis is currently seeking intermediate Sr. Pipe Stress Analyst Engineer to join our Candu Energy Inc. engineering team in Mississauga, Ontario.
This position requires an experienced individual who is self-motivated and capable of working independently or under the instruction from senior engineers. The candidate shall be able to follow the instructions from a qualified professional engineer to complete the assigned mechanical related scopes or tasks and develop necessary engineering design documentation as required.
Your role
The qualified individual will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Perform pipe stress evaluation of piping systems in accordance with ASME Section III, Div.1, and/or ASME B31.1/B31.3 code requirements, including thermal, fatigue, seismic, linear and non-linear analyses.
- Prepare engineering computations and analyses using applicable software (e.g., PipeStress, AutoPipe, Cesar II, MathCAD, GT STRUDL, ANSYS).
- Review of technical documents and drawings (e.g. General Arrangement, isometrics, pipe supports, flow diagrams and P&ID), calculations, design/analysis reports, design requirements, design manuals, bill of materials, design specifications, technical specifications, data sheets, etc.
- Support to prepare TSSA CRN registration packages for pressure boundary systems.
- Function as technical interface with client, suppliers, inter-discipline engineering teams, construction partners and project management groups.
- Perform site visits to client and supplier shops as required. Support field construction and execution activities, as needed (may include site visits).
- Perform engineering work following AtkinsRéalis/Candu Energy QA programs, and applicable codes, standards, and regulation requirements.

About you
- Engineering Degree in Mechanical, Civil & Structure from an accredited university or equivalent degree as recognized by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) is required.
- Registered or eligible to be registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
- Minimum 10 years of related work experience in mechanical engineering within a heavy industrial environment such as power, mining, oil & gas, etc. (knowledge of nuclear power systems would be an asset).
- Design experience with piping supports for power, mining, oil & gas, etc., plants.
- Experience in Stress Analysis using PipeStress, AutoPipe, Cesar II, MathCAD. GT STRUDL or other similar software program is an asset. Must be able to apply technical principles in a logical and practical manner to resolve engineering issues or technical problems.
- Working knowledge of CSA B51, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, ASME Section VIII, ASCE, NBCC, AISC, and other applicable codes, standards or regulatory guides related to process equipment for power, mining, oil & gas, etc. (knowledge of nuclear power systems codes and regulations would be an asset).
- Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Other Aspects:
- Working knowledge of CSA N285.0, CSA N289 and ASME Section III, and other applicable standards or regulatory guides related to nuclear plant components, pressure boundary equipment, and/or reactor systems is preferable.
- Design engineering experience in nuclear class 1, 2, 3 and 6 piping systems, and its associated supports for Nuclear Power Plants is preferable.
- Eligible to obtain Security Clearances through Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) is mandatory (for Candu internal and Client organization).
- May be required to obtain Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW) status, as required by task assignments. Travels to client job sites are required.
- Experience with time-history analysis (water hammer, pressure surge, etc. transient loads implementation) for piping systems is an asset.
- Experience with buried pipe systems and seismic assessment for buried piping systems in accordance with Appendix VII of ASME B31.1, or other applicable codes (i.e., ASCE, AWWA M11, etc.) is an asset.
- Qualification in the last five (5) years as a Specialized Professional Engineer to ASME Section III Division 1, Appendix XXIII is an asset.
- Experience with supervising and coordinating stress analysis activities performed by a small team of engineers / designers is an asset.
- Experience with stress analysis/supports design for steam piping systems for Balance Of Plant, in nuclear power plants is an asset.
