Sustainable engineering: How we can create a better future together

In a world brimming with challenges, from environmental crises to social inequities, the role of young professionals in engineering a better future has never been more critical.

If you're an A-level student or a recent school or college leaver, eager to make a tangible impact, consider an apprenticeship at AtkinsRéalis. We're a world-leading design, engineering and project management organisation redefining the possibilities of engineering and sustainability

What is sustainable engineering?

Sustainability in engineering involves adopting practices that prioritize the long-term health of the planet and its people.

This means taking steps to minimize waste, harnessing renewable energy sources, curbing pollution, and developing long-lasting, efficient systems that can benefit generations to come.

It's not just engineers that play a part, you can make a meaningful impact on the world around us with apprenticeship routes such as project management, business management, digital and technology or environmental practitioner.

At AtkinsRéalis, we adopt a sustainable approach at every stage of design and engineering, applying sustainable project management, which considers the environmental, social, and economic aspects of a project.

The power of your impact

Every project, no matter the scale, presents an opportunity to contribute to a better future for our planet and society.

At the heart of all of this is you. Which is why we focus on making sure you feel supported and empowered every step of the way on your apprenticeship.

Building a sustainable tomorrow: our commitment to Net Zero carbon

At AtkinsRéalis we've made a commitment to becoming net zero carbon by 2030. As signatories to the United Nations Global Compact, we've set high-level goals.

We promised to regularly measure and report our greenhouse gas emissions. We're taking real action by making changes to our business to reduce carbon, like using renewable energy. We're also finding ways to completely offset any leftover emissions.

Fostering environmental stewardship

Environmental stewardship is at the core of our purpose: to engineer a better future for our planet and its people. Our projects are designed to not only minimise environmental impact but also to actively contribute to the restoration and preservation of our planet's ecosystems.

By championing renewable energy, efficient resource management, and sustainable design, we aim to set an example for the industry, help to shape trends in environmental planning, and prove that economic growth and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.

Empowering society through innovation

We recognise that true progress lies in the empowerment of communities.

Many of our projects extend beyond infrastructure, design and technology, focusing on social initiatives that bring together the arts, learning and commerce.

By embracing diversity and fostering a culture of inclusivity, we're building a society where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.

Your path to impact

We're searching for passionate individuals like you, with top traits to succeed, who are eager to contribute to a better world.

Whether your passion lies in technology, digital, design, engineering or project management, there is a place for you at AtkinsRéalis.

Through our apprenticeship program, you'll have the opportunity to work alongside industry experts, learn from real-world projects, and contribute to initiatives that directly impact communities and the environment.
