Making the world your office with international remote working

Panagiotis Pasias is a design engineer at AtkinsRéalis. Since he joined our Ireland team, he's thrown himself into a great variety of projects ranging from housing developments to data centers. In his blog, he shares why he joined and what keeps him with us.

AtkinsRéalis, Ireland, is a fantastic place to be

When I first moved from Greece to Ireland a year ago, the first thing I noticed was how warm and friendly the people are. Irish people seem to always try to make others feel comfortable and valued, and this is exactly what I encountered during my first day in the office.

We thrive because we work together

The culture of my team, and AtkinsRéalis in general, is characterized by collaboration, respect, open communication, and mutual support. These attributes create a positive environment where people can grow and achieve great things. I was also pleasantly surprised to see how much the team respects and maintains a healthy work-life balance.

Work flexibility like I've never seen before

AtkinsRéalis has provided work flexibility that I've never seen before. Some of the benefits include working remotely and working flexible hours. For me, the best one is 'International Remote Working.' This benefits all employees, but it's invaluable for those from other EU countries like me. This allowed me to spend almost a month with my family back in Greece without using any of my annual leave.

Why I chose to work at AtkinsRéalis

The main thing that drew me to AtkinsRéalis was its reputation in the engineering sector and its diverse portfolio of projects. Of course, collaboration is a key factor for successful projects, and AtkinsRéalis really values and encourages collaboration at all levels. One of the first things I was told by the senior engineers on my team was, "Always speak your mind and don't be afraid to propose new ideas. New and creative ideas are always welcome." I also feel that AtkinsRéalis is committed to supporting the development of employees, both professionally and socially, with initiatives such as 'Lunch and Learn' sessions, mentorship, support with Chartership, and paid volunteer days.

We have a huge range of projects on the go at any one time!

I joined AtkinsRéalis a year ago, and so far, I've had the opportunity to work on projects varying so much in size, scope and scale. If I had to choose the most exciting project I've worked on, I'd say it's a multi-unit data center. The size of the development, the challenges we've faced, and the creative thinking required to tackle some of these challenges make it the most interesting and, at the same time, the most challenging project I've ever worked on.

We're engineering a better future.

In general, our job as civil engineers directly impact people's lives since we shape the built environment, improve infrastructure and ensure that our projects benefit society. Our team recognizes the power of technology in our sector, and we're constantly trying to stay at the forefront of technological advancements. This includes using the latest cloud-based services for our project deliverables and BIM software that enhances collaboration between all disciplines, leading to smoother project delivery.

Proud to deliver what's right for people and the environment

The current housing crisis is a major issue in Ireland. I'm sure the housing projects we are working on will eventually become homes where many people raise their families. I feel proud to be a part of a team actively contributing to this cause. In addition, web services, cloud-based systems, and storage solutions are becoming a massive part of the daily lives of millions of people. Therefore, our contribution to developing data centers will significantly impact society.
