Why women in nuclear thrive with us in France

I'm Magdalena, a lead civil engineer at AtkinsRéalis in France. I've worked in international teams for over a decade, designing and coordinating challenging civil engineering projects. My career has covered various sectors, including infrastructure, nuclear energy, and high-speed rail. I have successfully managed complex projects, including designing one of the nuclear plants in France and the High Speed 2 railway project in the UK.

My international experience includes stints in France, the UK, Germany, and Austria. My expertise extends to both technical and commercial aspects of project management, from providing time and cost estimations to developing risk and opportunities registers.

In my blog, I share my journey, motivations, and why I am committed to my role at AtkinsRéalis.

Why I chose AtkinsRéalis

Having worked on numerous international projects, including the HighSpeed 2 project in Great Britain, I was well aware of AtkinsRéalis and its strong reputation in the UK and North America. Additionally, some of my good friends worked at AtkinsRéalis. So, when I decided to move to France and discovered that AtkinsRéalis was active here, I began to watch for job opportunities with them.

In 2023, AtkinsRéalis opened a new office in Tours, where I live, and I was invited for an interview. During the panel interview, I quickly realized that the organization embodies an international spirit and offers numerous project and growth opportunities in France and other countries such as Canada, the UK, the Middle East, and Australia. The openness and supportive attitude of the recruitment team convinced me that AtkinsRéalis was the right next step for my career.

Our culture of global cooperation

My first project at AtkinsRéalis, which I was responsible for, was the structural design of offshore facilities for a French nuclear power plant. This demanding but fascinating project required close cooperation with our team and experts across France, the UK, India, and our partners—some of France's most significant construction and design companies. The project covered various engineering disciplines, including geotechnics, marine engineering, piping, and structural engineering, closely linked to construction methodology.

AtkinsRéalis has expertise in all these areas, so even when I encountered new challenges, there was always someone to guide and support me. With over 12 years of experience, I continue to learn and grow every day, which is incredibly motivating.

At AtkinsRéalis, our innovation goes beyond structural design—we create sustainable designs for a better future. We work closely with the broader AtkinsRéalis team to integrate sustainability into all our projects. As members of the global practice group within the extended international team, we share information, lessons learned, and resources across the entire AtkinsRéalis Engineering network.

I enjoy the teamwork at AtkinsRéalis

One of the highlights of our recent collaboration was the Bid Management Course held by our UK colleagues at the AtkinsRéalis office in Hamburg, Germany. This event was a fantastic opportunity for different cultures and working styles to come together and collaborate effectively. It showcased the company's commitment to fostering a global, inclusive, cooperative working environment. AtkinsRéalis offers an exciting and supportive place to advance your career, with numerous opportunities for professional growth and learning.

We're different, equal, and thrive together

At AtkinsRéalis, different really makes a difference. I'm part of a diverse and supportive team that strongly encourages equality, diversity, and inclusion. It's great to work for a company that truly values and appreciates the real you.
