Discovering my passion for engineering: Nagambike’s career journey

“AtkinsRéalis has been the foundation of many firsts in my life my first job, salary, project, and workspace. Receiving my offer letter was a moment of immense pride for me and for my parents. I never imagined working in a multinational company, and this opportunity became the turning point of my life. Today, being financially independent and able to contribute to my family’s well-being—especially supporting my younger sister’s education is deeply rewarding. More than anything, I feel proud seeing my parents happy with the path I’ve chosen.”

Nagambike

For Nagambike, these milestones are more than personal achievements—they represent the beginning of a journey filled with growth, confidence, and purpose. What started as an uncertain choice of career has grown into a fulfilling path where every challenge has unlocked new confidence and every project has opened new possibilities. Today, as part of the Water & Environment Building Information Modelling (BIM) team at our Global Technology Centre (GTC) in Bengaluru, she reflects on her journey of resilience and learning.

Read her journey in her own words.

An unexpected beginning

I am Nagambike Ramakrishna, part of the Water & Environment Building Information Modelling (BIM) team in Bengaluru, working on highway drainage projects. With nearly three years here, I find the environment innovative, inclusive, and enriching—thanks to supportive managers, inspiring leaders, and collaborative colleagues.

When I enrolled in a Diploma in Civil Engineering at Government Women’s Polytechnic (2019–2022), I didn’t know much about the field. Curiosity soon grew into passion, shaped by professors and mentors. Training in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Revit gave me the foundation that opened the door to my career.

Finding my confidence

Nagambike

Like many fresh graduates, I was hesitant to ask questions or share my thoughts. Over time, the inclusive culture at AtkinsRéalis helped me overcome that fear. Each project, challenge, and colleague added to my learning.

I also discovered my passion for event organizing. From supporting cultural programs through the Social Sync Hub to coordinating Building Information Modelling training batches, I found opportunities that strengthened my confidence. Being chosen as an Early Career Champion was a proud milestone that connected me with leadership and expanded my professional network.

My support system

Nagambike with her family

Behind every achievement of mine is my family. Though my parents didn’t have the chance to pursue higher education, they ensured my sisters and I did. Despite questions about my choice of civil engineering as a woman, they always encouraged me to follow my passion.

Today, I feel proud to contribute to my family’s well-being and support my younger sister’s education. Their unwavering love and encouragement have been my foundation, giving me the strength to balance both work and studies as I pursue my bachelor’s in civil engineering.

Life beyond work

Family is my greatest strength—we are more than just a family; we are best friends. Outside of work, I find joy in singing, music, and dream of traveling the world someday. I believe in giving my best to everything I do and live by the principle that dedication and perseverance always pay off.

A note to young dreamers

Always dream big and believe in yourself. Be open to learning because every experience has something to teach. Stay curious, stay kind, and carry your enthusiasm forward. These values have shaped my journey so far, and I hope they inspire others too.

At AtkinsRéalis, we believe every career journey deserves the right support—just like Nagambike’s. If you’re ready to grow, learn, and make an impact, explore opportunities with us and start your own story today.
