Engineering/ Technical Manager - Electrical

Overview

The Engineering/ Technical Manager – Electrical will report functionally to the Engineering Director, Candu Engineering, and daily to the Site project Technical Engineering Director. The Engineering Manager oversees the execution of design and technical activities in a site project delivery environment in accordance with industry standards and established governance and will be responsible for assigned aspects of site related engineering, and construction delivery for a New Nuclear program. This role will require close stakeholder management of partners and client, as well as leadership of project team members. The EM – Electrical Engineering is expected to have significant experience and skills in engineering, procurement, construction, contract management and project controls incusing project delivery and project execution methodology. Leading integrated teams is an equally important skill; developing and building a large team of professionals is a requirement of this role.

As DNNP is considered a mega Project, the overall engineering scope has been divided into bundles; one of which is called Nuclear Island. This scope is comprised of the Reactor Building, Radwaste Building, Control Building, and Service Building. This role is to provide engineering oversight for these scope for detailed site-specific design scopes to support the construction schedule.

The project teams are predominantly located to the east of Toronto near and at the project site in Courtice-Darlington Nuclear Generating Station in Ontario.

Your role

  • Lead Engineering & Installation – Manage site engineering through installation for new-build nuclear station electrical systems, ensuring functional, performance, environmental, and seismic requirements are met.

  • Plan & Execute Work – Deliver engineering scope in line with quality, cost, schedule, contract specifications, and applicable engineering/QA procedures.

  • Coordinate Electrical Design – Oversee electrical design activities, including NSP–BOP design interfaces, ensuring alignment across Civil, Electrical, Human Factors, Procurement, and Quality teams.

  • Stakeholder & Vendor Interface – Collaborate with engineering peers, modelling, procurement, construction, and system/equipment vendors to ensure designs meet performance, safety, regulatory, constructability, operability, and maintainability needs.

  • Deliverable Management – Ensure department outputs meet budget, schedule, quality, technical, and regulatory requirements while removing barriers impacting safety, quality, cost, or schedule.

  • People Management – Lead and supervise 10–20 electrical engineering staff, including recruiting, resource forecasting, training, performance management, fostering a positive team culture, and supporting succession planning.

  • Support Functional Management – Contribute to objectives, development plans, training, qualifications, knowledge transfer, and competency management while promoting AtkinsRéalis values with a focus on ED&I.

About you

  • Education & Professional Credentials

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field) and a Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario, authorized to seal engineering documents.

  • Experience & Leadership

    • 10+ years supporting engineering, refurbishment, and/or new‑build projects (nuclear or similar).

    • Minimum 5 years leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and managing project resources/career development.

  • Technical & Engineering Expertise

    • Strong background in electrical system design, equipment sizing/specification, layouts, schematics, protection & control, condition assessments, and plant control system design.

    • Proficient in electrical analysis tools (e.g., ETAP, EDSA, EMTP‑RV).

  • Codes, Standards & Regulatory Knowledge

    • Deep knowledge of Canadian and international electrical codes (CSA, ESA, NFPA, IEEE, ANSI), EPRI/INPO guidelines, and nuclear quality/ regulatory frameworks (CSA N286, N299, IEC/IEEE standards).

    • Experience with engineering change control, non-conformance dispositions, technical specifications, and regulatory communication (CNSC, US NRC is an asset).

  • Project & Stakeholder Management

    • Skilled in coordinating multidisciplinary teams, interfacing with engineering disciplines, procurement, QA, construction, and vendors to ensure compliant, constructible, operable, and maintainable designs.

  • Soft Skills & Additional Requirements

    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time‑management skills; results‑driven.

    • Eligible for Security Clearance through Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC )

    • Experience in Canadian-licensed nuclear facilities considered an asset.
