Overview
To meet the increasing demand of our expertise in the nuclear industry, we have now multiple opportunities for Senior Mechanical Design Engineers with experience ranging from 4–30 years in mechanical design and engineering to join the nuclear team at our AtkinsRéalis India offices. You will be working across our business, for different global regions in supporting both nuclear new build and refurbishment projects. In particular, you will be required to support mechanical design of nuclear reactor components, coolant channel design and replacement, primary coolant feeder design and replacement, feeder layout and analysis, design and development of tools for such refurbishment/erection activities, etc. As we support our clients you may be expected to travel and work from client sites across the geographies we work in as the role, project or secondment requires.

Your role
- The work is varied and may include some or all of the responsibilities mentioned below:
- Design and development of nuclear reactor components and systems such as calandria, calandria tubes, coolant channels, feeders, headers, reactivity mechanisms, end shields, etc.
- Design of tools and scheme development for activities such as coolant channel replacement, feeder replacement, and system refurbishment for nuclear power plants.
- Design and development of mechanical handling systems and tools for plant refurbishment activities.
- Design and specification of lifting and handling tools (strongbacks, rolling rings, belly bands, positioning fixtures etc.), crane and lifts (railcar and trailer) for moving high value components.
- Preparation of conceptual and detail design packages, including optioneering, design development, and concept evaluation.
- Design and implementation of engineering changes/system upgrades in brown field projects.
- Production of manufacturing packages, coordination with manufacturer/contractor, review of vendor drawings/documents.
- Production of deliverables such as design definition and substantiation documents, detailed equipment specifications, component/material specifications, tool performance test specifications.
- Preparation of plant maintenance schedules, access, lifting and maintenance strategies, technical risk assessments, and commissioning strategies, cost and programme estimations.
- Development of project technical proposals, scopes, schedules and budget estimates for mechanical discipline work.
- Walk-downs to assess system configuration, evaluation of system/component degradation and material condition.
- Witness the pre-commissioning/commissioning activities by the contractor/vendor and produce/review all relevant documentation.
- Strategy development for in-service inspection and testing.
- Review of 2D and 3D CAD drawings/models and bill of materials.
- Plant refurbishment, operational improvement and life extension studies.

About you
- Candidate should possess the following qualifications, skills and experience.
- Graduate or post-graduate in mechanical or other relevant engineering.
- Experience in Nuclear, Power, Oil & Gas or other highly regulated industrial environment preferred.
- Experience in design of nuclear reactor components such as calandria, end shield, coolant channels, control rod drive mechanisms, etc.
- Experience in design of cutting and handling tools for activities such as coolant channel replacement, primary coolant feeder replacement in the nuclear industry.
- Experience in coolant channel removal preparatory activities such as design of vault cranes, trolleys and platforms with audio and video facilities.
- Experience in inspection activities such as calandria tube inspection, feeder thickness measurement, and sag measurement.
- Capability for design of tool and fixtures, if any, to enable the handling, assembly/disassembly of components and sub-assemblies.
- Reactor coolant feeder layout and stress/seismic analysis.
- Life extension studies and ageing management of systems and components.
- Experience in mechanical design and assessment in either greenfield or brownfield projects.
- Ability to understand and define client's requirements, plan and schedule deliverables, timelines.
- Knowledge of fabrication drawings and processes.
- Knowledge of manufacturing non-conformance is preferable.
- Familiar with international design codes and standards (such as: ASME BPVC Section III, ASME B31.1, PSSR 2000, BS EN 13480 and BS EN13445) and recommended practices pertaining to mechanical design, fabrication, installation, inspection, testing, quality assurance and quality control etc.
- Strong delivery culture, maintaining strict timelines is must.
- Proven computer aptitude, and expertise in MS office.
- Experience of providing strong technical advice and guidance on mechanical engineering design to the client.
- Exposure to field installation, commissioning and testing of design changes.
- Experience in supporting construction and commissioning phases.
- Ability to work independently or as part of team, flexible attitude to the type of work and the level of responsibility accepted.
- Well-versed knowledge of Engineering, Quality and Manufacturing related to Nuclear, Oil and Gas, any Mechanical equipment based industries.
- Experience in production of drawings for equipment layout, fixtures, mechanical handling tools, and equipment drawings.
- Ability to diagnose mechanical equipment problems and develop formal work package instructions for performance and documentation of repairs.
- Knowledge of CAD software like AutoCAD, Revit, Creo, Inventor, Solid works, Unigraphics, Catia V5, Plant 3D, E3D, PDMS.
- Have excellent communication skills and motivated by working within a dynamic and diverse project delivery environment.
- Be willing to travel internationally and willing to work flexibly with occasional out of hours work to accommodate project and client requirements.
