Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Overview

The successful applicant will be a Senior Geotechnical Engineer with proven technical expertise and project management track record. The role will include the execution of major programs, undertaking complex and detailed design analysis, supporting and leading proposals, mentoring of junior staff, as well as act as technical reference, and therefore good communication skills are essential.

Candidates should have the right flare and ability that will help us develop and expand our technical expertise, build upon the existing portfolio of various projects and collaborate with our rapidly expanding, flexible and outward looking team that can tackle work across a broad spectrum of sectors.

Your role

  • Provide senior review and design leadership using proven technical skills to support various projects, undertake detailed designs and engage in peer-review to produce quality deliverables.
  • Project management experience and understanding of the needs and approaches to the engineering consultancy and design markets, including relationships with clients, and work planning.
  • Lead project proposals/cost estimates and participate in the process of securing new business opportunities or expanding the scope of existing projects.
  • Act in a senior role with multi-tasking abilities in a fast-moving engineering consultancy environment.
  • Application of Design Standards and Guidelines in geotechnical investigation, assessment and design methodology application for various government, public agencies and private sector.

About you

  • Degree in civil engineering, geotechnical or geology with strong academic background with a relevant degree (ideally MSc or equivalent) and have a minimum of 15 years' pertinent experience.
  • Extensive design leader experience in one or more of the following sectors: infrastructure, highways, rail, municipal, industrial, mining, commercial or residential geotechnics.
  • Extensive experience in limit equilibrium and numerical modelling techniques such as Finite Element, Boundary Method with extensive capabilities in geotechnical softwares such as PLAXIS, FLAC, GeoStudio (Slope, Seep, Quake) and Rocscience applications.
  • Proven experience in design of Raft and Machine Foundations, Deep Foundations, Shoring & Retaining systems, Settlement and Deformation Assessments, Lateral Response Design, Ground Improvement Designs, and Seismic & Liquefaction Assessments.
  • Be a Professional Engineering License as P.Eng. with APEGA or other provincial boards.
