Take your career abroad with AtkinsRéalis: Nestor’s career story

Nestor Grageda has been with AtkinsRéalis for 18 years and is part of our IT Infrastructure team as Desk Side and IT Support. Outside of work, he is a huge football fan and loves the World Cup. We spoke to Nestor about his time so far at AtkinsRéalis and his experience relocating from UAE to Hong Kong with the organization.

Tell us about your career journey

Nestor has a Bachelor of Science in Information and Computer Science. His career began as a teacher working for an international school in the Philippines where he held onto his IT roots and doubled as a System Administrator.

Nestor has always been keen to travel the world so when the opportunity to relocate from the Philippines to Abu Dhabi, UAE, came he had no choice but to pursue his dreams.

His interest in technology was still alive and well so Nestor took up the responsibility of managing the organization's computer system.

What attracted you to AtkinsRéalis

When the opportunity to work at AtkinsRéalis presented itself, he accepted the challenge with open arms. Unlike his previous roles, his role at AtkinsRéalis was solely focused on IT.

Nestor has contributed to major projects such as the Dubai Metro and various district cooling plant projects. During this time, he had the opportunity to travel all over the UAE as well as Oman.

At AtkinsRéalis , you'll be working to change the world and work on global projects that take on today's most pressing challenges. At every career stage, we have a structure of support and training to help you develop what you need to succeed.

What was the transition from UAE to Hong Kong like?

Travelling was always part of Nestor's plan so he decided to make the transition from UAE to Hong Kong with AtkinsRéalis supporting him every step of the way.

"The relocation has been a very smooth process. I am grateful for the warm welcome the Hong Kong team has extended me and how supportive they have been. I've really enjoyed the change in the environment and having the opportunity to meet with colleagues through extracurricular activities."

In today's global market, a diverse workforce is a fundamental, key driver to success and at AtkinsRéalis, we recognise that. We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion no matter where you are in the world.

What's the culture like in Hong Kong?

Hong Kong is a fast-paced city where people are always on the go. If you enjoy being on your toes, you'll love the Hong Kong lifestyle. Hong Kong has a wonderful culture, friendly people, great food, and lots to do.

Whilst Hong Kong is distinctively different from the Philippines, I've found that there is a feeling of acceptance. I've had the chance to explore the city and try a lot of different ramen!

If you prefer something more laidback, you can stay on the outskirts of the city and experience the best of both worlds.
