I am a Bridge and Engineering Structure Inspector at AtkinsRéalis. This includes planning, inspection, and reporting.

Can you tell us a bit about your journey?

Ever since my orientation class in secondary 3 when I built a popsicle stick bridge to showcase my future career, I knew I wanted to work in civil engineering. I was passionate about structures and my grades enabled me to follow that path. I studied pure and applied sciences at Champlain College before continuing my studies in civil engineering at Concordia University. Through the university's co-op program, I completed an internship that cemented my interest in bridges and engineering structures.

What do you enjoy most about your current job?

What I value most as part of my work is the balance between field work and office work. That variety makes my job both interesting and engaging. I'm also fortunate to be part of a team that strives for paperless work by developing mobile apps that become our primary inspection tools, which saves us time in the field.

Why do you enjoy working at AtkinsRéalis?

AtkinsRéalis is a major company boasting a wide breadth of specialties and knowledge. The various departments are always available for any questions related to other areas. People are friendly and approachable, which foster excellent synergy.

What projects are you currently working on?

One of the biggest projects I'm working on is the REM. AtkinsRéalis is responsible for the inspection and maintenance of the REM for 30 years after commissioning. This major project extends from Brossard to Deux-Montagnes and features unique challenges in terms of coordination and access. The team is available 24/7 to respond to any emergency regarding the condition of REM structures. We're simultaneously working on several other inspection mandates for the MTMD's various territorial departments.

What does diversity mean to you?

I believe diversity is the heart of any team. Appreciating the differences of others broadens our range of skills and offers diverse perspectives that fuels innovation and optimize problem-solving. It also fosters a sense of inclusiveness and makes each team member feel valued and respected.

Why is collaboration so important to AtkinsRéalis?

Collaboration is essential at AtkinsRéalis because of the scale of the projects we work on. These projects require collaboration with many people from a variety of disciplines. In the inspection field, our team constantly helps each other coordinate and plan inspections, as well as divide up tasks in the field. We trust each other's work, which enables us to work effectively.

What would you say to someone who is considering joining AtkinsRéalis?

Inspections are an excellent way to see how structures evolve over time. You have the opportunity to spend time in the field with amazing colleagues and work on major projects that make a difference in our society.
