What is net zero UK? How AtkinsRéalis is contributing to this target

What is net zero UK?

Net zero UK refers to the concept of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in the United Kingdom.

The UK government has set a legal commitment to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

This ambitious goal is primarily focused on addressing climate change by reducing the overall impact of human activities that contribute to the emission of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide and methane.

Achieving net-zero emissions involves a combination of reducing emissions through sustainable practices, transitioning to renewable energy sources, and implementing technologies that capture and offset remaining emissions.

The aim is to create a balance between emissions produced and emissions removed or offset, ultimately mitigating the impact of human activities on the climate. With this demand comes a need for sustainability professionals

How AtkinsRéalis is contributing to net zero UK

AtkinsRéalis is at the forefront of contributing to Net Zero in the UK through a purpose-driven commitment to engineering a better future for our planet and its people. And we could not achieve this mission without our sustainability experts

Guided by a vision that emphasizes sustainable solutions connecting people, data, and technology, we tackle some of today's most critical challenges, including population growth, transportation, and climate change.

Alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals

Through prioritizing three key objectives from the UN Sustainable Development Goals, we solidify our commitment to creating lasting impact and contribute significantly to the UK's ambitious goals for a sustainable and resilient future

  1. Affordable and Clean Energy

Drawing on decades of expertise, we engineer solutions for a comprehensive range of energy applications, from nuclear and hydro to renewables, transmission, and energy storage.

In an era where digital transformation is paramount, we integrate intelligent networks and cybersecurity systems to optimize power plants, enhancing their capacity to generate cleaner energy.

  1. Sustainable Cities and Communities

We contribute by designing and planning infrastructure projects across various sectors, including transport, energy, water, environment, and more.

Our approach incorporates environmental, economic, and social sustainability into every project, creating vibrant ecosystems that meet the needs of modern populations globally.

  1. Climate Action

Leveraging our expertise, unwavering commitment, and global experience, we are uniquely positioned to address challenges and identify opportunities for a carbon-free economy.

Our dedication manifests in pioneering solutions for accelerated decarbonization, ensuring sustainable economic growth for businesses, sectors, and regions at scale.

Contribute to net zero UK with AtkinsRéalis

By focusing on these pillars, we are actively contributing to the UK's Net Zero aspirations, demonstrating our commitment to environmental sustainability, resilient communities, and a future powered by clean and renewable energy.

Through a combination of engineering excellence and a holistic approach to sustainability, we are driving positive change in the journey toward Net Zero. And you can too.
