From data to impact: Varna’s journey shaping global sustainability reporting from India

For Varna, one of the most meaningful pieces of work has been supporting AtkinsRéalis’s internal GHG emissions inventory across different regions. It is the kind of work that depends on technical accuracy, clear structure, and close coordination across teams.

Varna Smiling in front of camera

Based in India as an Environment Consultant, Varna supports sustainability and environmental advisory activities across regions. His day-to-day work includes GHG emission inventory support, sustainability ratings, environmental analytics, reporting, assessments, and wider sustainability-related project delivery.

The GHG inventory work stood out because of its scale and complexity. Large volumes of activity data were coming from multiple regions and different sources. That made consistency and data quality essential for accurate emissions calculations and reporting. Supporting this process meant working carefully with environmental data, helping consolidate and review inputs, assisting with GHG calculations, and contributing to reporting activities aligned with the right requirements.

This is a strong example of the kind of technical challenge teams can take on through AtkinsRéalis in India. The work is detailed, practical, and connected to a wider global need.

Technical depth that supports better decisions

Varna’s experience reflects the depth of work involved in sustainability data and climate reporting. It is not only about producing figures. It is about making sure data is structured properly, reviewed carefully, and used in a way that supports informed decision-making.

That technical discipline matters across many of the projects he supports. His work focuses on environmental and climate-related tasks including GHG calculations, sustainability assessments, environmental analytics, and reporting support. Across these activities, the goal is to improve the quality of sustainability-focused decision-making and help deliver more informed project outcomes.

For candidates interested in environmental consulting or climate work, this gives a clear sense of what the role can involve. You may be working with data, assessments, and reporting one day, then supporting broader advisory activity across regions the next. The work is varied, but it stays grounded in real delivery.

A global team with a supportive way of working

Alongside the technical side, Varna highlights the collaborative and supportive environment around the work. One of the things that stands out most to him is the opportunity to work with global teams and learn from different experiences and perspectives.

That matters in a multi-region environment, especially when teams are coordinating data, methods, and reporting expectations across different locations. Strong collaboration helps create consistency, and it also supports learning. Varna describes this as a valuable experience, both for strengthening technical capability and for building practical understanding of sustainability delivery.

He also points to supportive leadership, continuous learning opportunities, and strong team collaboration as important factors in helping him do his best work.

Why this work matters

Varna sees engineering and sustainability as closely connected through practical, scalable solutions. In his work, that means helping organizations improve environmental performance, reporting quality, and long-term sustainability planning.

One reflection captures that clearly. Even detailed technical work at the data level contributes to a much larger sustainability objective.

For people considering a GTC-based role in India, that is a useful picture of the opportunity. You can contribute to complex global sustainability work, collaborate across regions, and build technical experience that supports meaningful outcomes. As Varna puts it, it is a great place to learn, collaborate, and grow while working with diverse teams and meaningful projects.
