The US energy system is changing. Be part of the team engineering what comes next.

The demand on America’s power grid has never been greater. New generation is coming online. Aging infrastructure needs to be strengthened and modernized. And the manufacturing base behind the energy transition is being built from the ground up. Behind all of it are engineers- solving the technical challenges that keep communities powered and the transition moving forward.

AtkinsRéalis is growing its Power & Energy engineering team across the US. We’re actively hiring structural engineers, electrical engineers, project managers, construction managers, and environmental specialists across multiple locations- with remote and hybrid options available for the right candidates. With more than 100 years of experience delivering end-to-end power solutions worldwide, this is engineering at a scale and variety that’s hard to find anywhere else.

The projects shaping US power and energy infrastructure

Our US Power & Energy portfolio spans the full energy system- from grid resilience and utility program delivery to clean energy manufacturing. Here’s where our engineers are making an impact right now.

AtkinsRéalis has been selected by LUMA to deliver architecture and engineering design services to permanently improve, strengthen, and harden Puerto Rico’s transmission and distribution infrastructure. After Hurricanes Maria and Fiona exposed critical vulnerabilities in the grid, this program is focused on building power line and substation infrastructure that holds up under pressure- for the 3.4 million people who depend on it. We’ve worked in Puerto Rico since 1993, and 99% of our local team are from the island.

We hold a multi-year Master Service Agreement with Avangrid Networks for Project Management Office and Owner’s Engineering services across four utilities: Rochester Gas and Electric, New York State Electric and Gas Company, Central Maine Power, and United Illuminated. Engineers on this program guide capital projects from planning and permitting through construction and commissioning- the kind of work that sits across disciplines and keeps you close to the full arc of delivery.

In Cartersville, Georgia, AtkinsRéalis delivered the tech stack for Hanwha Qcells’ $2.5 billion solar manufacturing expansion- the digital infrastructure that keeps a major industrial program on track. Cost and schedule management, real-time analytics, document coordination from design through construction. This is where the energy transition meets the factory floor.

AtkinsRéalis has been selected to lead engineering for Idaho Power’s Bennett Mountain plant expansion- a major power generation project in Idaho that reflects the growing need for reliable capacity as the US energy system evolves. This is the kind of work where engineers are involved from the earliest stages of design through delivery, shaping how new generation infrastructure gets built.

What makes Power & Energy engineering at AtkinsRéalis different

Our US Power & Energy portfolio covers grid infrastructure, utility capital programs, power plant engineering including combined cycle and single cycle facilities, and clean energy manufacturing support. Engineers here don’t get locked into a single project type or geography- the range of work means you’re always building new capability and seeing how different parts of the energy system connect.

With operations around the world, AtkinsRéalis gives engineers in the US access to global project expertise, technical knowledge from international teams, and the potential to work on projects beyond US borders. Your managers draw on experience from colleagues in multiple countries, and your career isn’t limited to one region or one market.

We support hybrid working for engineers near our offices, and we’ll consider fully remote arrangements for candidates with the right skillset who aren’t located near one. We believe the best engineers do their best work when they have the autonomy to manage their time- and we’ve built our working model around that.

AtkinsRéalis is in the middle of an accelerated US growth plan- increasing our workforce from around 5,800 to 10,000 through strategic hires and acquisitions. This isn’t a company holding steady. It’s one that’s investing in the engineers, the markets, and the infrastructure that will define the next decade of US power and energy.

Power & energy engineering roles we’re hiring now

We’re actively recruiting across the US, with particular demand in the following areas:

  • Structural engineers - mid-level to senior, supporting power plant and infrastructure projects
  • Electrical engineers - mid-level to senior, across transmission, distribution, and generation
  • Project managers and program delivery leads for complex capital programs
  • Construction managers and field engineers
  • Environmental and permitting specialists supporting infrastructure approvals and compliance
  • Mechanical/Piping Engineers
  • Instrumentation and Controls Engineers

Our power and energy engineering roles offer the chance to work across the project lifecycle- from early-stage planning and design through construction management and commissioning. Whether your background is in power generation, transmission and distribution, renewable energy, or grid modernization, there’s a place for your expertise here.
