Our teams and what they do

Our Nuclear team works collaboratively across the industry, building trust and delivering exceptional engineering solutions to our key clients. It’s a really exciting time to be a part of our team, with decades of nationally and internationally critical projects in the pipeline. For you, this means unrivalled opportunities to develop your career by joining a growing team operating in a fast-paced environment and delivering solutions to our clients’ most challenging engineering requirements.

As a Graduate Project Manager, you’ll be responsible for the delivery of projects to time, cost and quality primarily in the nuclear sector. This could include:

  • Interfacing with internal clients such as the engineering team and project support functions.
  • Interfacing with external stakeholders such as client organisations, our delivery partners and our supply chains.
  • Gaining an understanding of and complying with our company processes and procedures.
  • Monitoring of project performance and reporting of that to both internal management and client organisations using tools such as earned value management.
  • You could also be tasked with leading and coordinating high quality, industry-leading bids.

As a Graduate Project Engineer, you will be working in a multi-disciplinary team of Mechanical, Electrical, Building Services and Project Engineers who work across all stages of the nuclear project lifecycle from new build to operations to decommissioning to deliver multi-disciplinary packages of work on key facilities, systems and components across the full spectrum of Nuclear Power. As a project engineer you would be working in roles related to the design, analysis and assessment of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, Electrical Systems and Mechanical Process systems. These can be stand-alone technical tasks or as part of large multi-disciplinary projects.

As a Project Manager or Project Engineer, you will be working within an interdisciplinary engineering team to achieve a common goal. This role will allow you to develop technical and project skills through targeted training opportunities, on the job experience, mentoring and continual professional development such as chartership progression. There is also the potential to develop your management skills by leading other team members within a project-based environment.

In joining our Nuclear business, you’ll be part of one of three key teams in the UK:

  • Reactor Operations
  • Power New Build
  • Decommissioning

Locations for this business will include: Bristol, Epsom, Manchester, Whitehaven (West Cumbria).
(Please note locations may close due to volume of applications - if your preferred location isn't available when you go to apply please select an alternative.)

Locations within this team: Derby

Please note whilst most of our graduate roles start around September 2026, the Reactor Operations team in Derby is open to candidates starting sooner if you have already graduated from university.

Our mission is to solve complex nuclear engineering problems to keep the lights on, keep everyone safe and ensure the clean evolution of the UK nuclear estate. Our purpose is to build lasting relationships where we are valued and can develop our people across the widest variety of challenges. Our vision is to be the 'go to' community for creative solutions, known for empowering and trusting our people, and where our nuclear expertise is sought after to secure the future.

As a Graduate Project Manager within Reactor Operations, you will join a growing and vibrant team and find yourself immersed in a diverse portfolio of work covering the entire nuclear lifecycle in both the civil nuclear sector and UK defence industry. With the knowledge and skills that you’ve gained throughout your studies, you’ll be ready to take the next step in your career, working alongside a diverse team of highly skilled engineers. As part of our team, you will be empowered to gain broad experience across our portfolio of work with key clients such as Rolls-Royce and EDF.

You can expect to gain experience in a variety of working environments, including being based in our AtkinsRéalis offices around the UK, as well as gaining valuable site-based experience supporting our clients on their operating sites at the forefront of carbon neutral electricity generation or within the cutting-edge of the UKs defence capability.

Your team will help you continuously improve and develop your skills, learn new things, and keep up to date with the latest developments in the industry. All of this adds up to an outstanding environment to gain varied experience that will aid you with your professional development and progress towards professional registration.

We’re looking for graduates who are excited to apply their project management skills to help keep the lights on, keep everyone safe, and ensure the clean evolution of the UK nuclear estate. You should also be keen to develop your knowledge, skills and understanding of the field and have an interest in the nuclear energy sector.

Teams: Project Management or Project Engineering
Locations within these Teams: Bristol, Epsom, Manchester

Please note whilst most of our graduate roles start in September 2026 the Power New Build team (in Epsom only) is open to candidates starting sooner if you have already graduated from university.

You will join a growing and vibrant team, taking on the role of consultant to key nuclear clients through design, build and operation of the next generation of nuclear reactors. Joining our team, you will have the opportunity to work on numerous exciting projects, including helping us design the first nuclear power stations to be built in the UK for 25 years, helping the UK achieve its greenhouse emissions Net Zero target. We support our clients remotely, and many opportunities are available to deliver work from their offices and, potentially, power stations.

Our graduate scheme is centred around an ‘every opportunity is your opportunity’ basis, where work is allocated on your interests and availability. We encourage you to deliver work in innovative ways, and utilise our implementation of digital technologies. There are also opportunities to get involved in business development activities, such as the Net Zero Superheroes schools competition, or Engineering Net Zero thought-leadership.

This role offers personal development, training, and support towards chartership, with plenty of opportunity to get involved in a wide range of exciting projects. We're looking for enthusiastic and diligent project managers to support the transition to Net Zero.

Teams: Project Management or Project Controls
Locations within this Team: Whitehaven (West Cumbria), Manchester.

Based in our Westlakes office on the edge of the stunning Lake District, our team supports clients within the Nuclear industry to deliver innovative solutions in a challenging environment. You will be part of our fast-evolving team who strive towards using cutting edge technology in a diverse range of projects. Recent projects have incorporated the design, specification, integration and substantiation of all three aspects of EC&I engineering.

As a graduate within the team, you’ll have the chance to get involved with projects such as (but not limited to):

  • Helping provide solutions to a range of technical issues relating to waste management including developing technical solutions to waste engineering problems.
  • Supporting clients within their sites and offices – this may require travel to different sites away from your local office.
  • Supporting onsite decommissioning activities including AtkinsRéalis and client led projects.

The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in the nuclear sector and is passionate about incorporating digital design into their work.
