Overview

Our Nuclear division is a leading consultancy providing multi-disciplinary engineering support services to all project stages, from concept through to completion, to owners, operators, regulators and suppliers to a diversified set of clients. Within the Nuclear sector, we are involved across the whole life cycle of the civil nuclear industry, building the next generation of civil nuclear power stations and the first large scale prototype fusion reactor, meeting the challenge of keeping the current nuclear fleet operational and tackling complex decommissioning projects. With existing relationships with the major operators in the Nuclear and Power sector, we offer a hugely stimulating variety of work, within a team which is rapidly developing to support the delivery of new nuclear build, maintaining the existing nuclear and power generating assets and building net zero energy capabilities. Our projects are on a global scale with opportunities across the UK, Europe, North America, Canada and the Middle East, across a range of projects.

To meet the increasing demand of our expertise in the nuclear industry and renewables sector, now we have opportunities for Senior C&I Engineers with experience ranging from 2-6 years, with demonstratable experience in C&I engineering to join the nuclear team at our AtkinsRéalis India offices.

We are particularly interested in individuals with reasonable consultancy/contracting experience. Previous power, oil and gas or nuclear experience is desirable, but not essential, particularly with suitable demonstration of experience in a highly regulated industry (e.g. Oil and Gas, Pharmaceutical).

Your role

  • Develop a variety of C&I design documents such as design drawings, technical specifications, design basis, calculations, instrument selection with a high level of competence and minimal oversight.
  • Work efficiently to ensure that the project schedules and budgets are met.
  • Develop control deliverables such as Control Narratives, Cause and Effect Diagrams, System Architecture Diagrams, Instrument Location Layouts, Installation Details, Wiring & Interconnection Diagrams, PLC Layouts, and Loop Drawings.
  • Prepare C&I lists such as equipment list, Instrument list, I/O list, I/O assignment, Instrument Index, Serial Interface list, cable list, etc.
  • Perform instrument sizing calculations, selection, identification of all safety (nuclear and operational) requirements.
  • Production of instrument data sheets, and functional specifications, their assessment and justification
  • Provide configuration of and programming of controls equipment, including PLCs, HMIs, DCS Systems, etc.
  • Production of vendor packages, coordination with manufacturer/contractor, review of vendor drawings/documents.
  • Preparation of instrument specifications, loop diagrams and cabling schematics, schedules, technical risk assessments, and commissioning strategies, cost and programme estimations.
  • Estimation of costs and delivery of the work package within required timescales
  • Design/selection of PLCs/DCS/Data Processing Systems / Process Control High Integrity Plant Protection Systems.
  • Availability, Reliability and Maintainability assessment
  • Participate in independent design reviews and verifications to ensure high standards are met.
  • Participate in client and project review meetings.
  • Preparation of reports such as Feasibility Study, Concept Design Reports, etc.
  • Liaising with all stakeholders and responsible for all technical issues related to their area of specialization.
  • Co-ordination with other discipline specialists where areas interface or overlap exist.

About you

  • Suitable degree in Control and Instrumentation with domain experience in energy systems. Experience in detail engineering consultancy is preferred.
  • 2- 6 years of work experience in Control and Instrumentation engineering.
  • Experience in Nuclear, Power, Oil & Gas or other highly regulated industrial environment preferred.
  • Experience of Process Control & Instrumentation/Reactor Protection and Regulation system design.
  • Knowledge of safety systems/high integrity systems/equipment, automation system design.
  • Experience of working on UK, Canada, USA and Middle East projects.
  • Knowledge of IEC 61508, 61511, 61513, SIL Categorisation/ Integrity Targets and safety life cycle.
  • Knowledge of IEC/BS standards, Safety Instrumented Systems, Programmable Logic Controllers, Fire Detection Systems.
  • Knowledge of FMEA, HAZOP, and automation system design.
  • Experience of providing strong technical advice and guidance on C&I engineering design to the client.
  • Good working knowledge of industry standards, design and installation codes of practice and regulations.
  • Good knowledge of industrial communication standard protocols.
  • Working knowledge of cabling systems which include cable block diagrams, cable schedules, cable routing drawings, schematics, termination schedules and cable specifications.
  • A flair for solving complex problems from first principles and the ability to deliver multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong delivery culture, and maintenance of strict timelines.
  • Proven computer aptitude, and expertise in MS office; Knowledge of AutoCAD and Visio desirable.
  • Understanding of other relevant engineering disciplines.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of team, flexible attitude to the type of work and the level of responsibility accepted.
  • Ability to understand and define client's requirements, plan & schedule deliverables, timelines.
  • Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles for industrial control systems, ensuring early‑stage design considerations aligning with client expectations.
  • Design knowledge of access control systems, CCTV system, telephone, and PA system.
  • Good knowledge of Hazardous Area Classification and various protection.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and support them with technical guidance.
  • Maintain and update personal knowledge of current industry trends and technology.
  • Proven strong problem solving, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills with a proven ability to write accurate, detailed and concise technical reports.
  • Flexible to relocate to AtkinsRéalis India Office Locations (Bangalore/Gurgaon/Mumbai) flexible in travelling to AtkinsRéalis' and client's'office locations around the world, if required.
