Overview
The Mechanical SME will serve as the technical authority for all mechanical engineering aspects of the Projects, providing specialist expertise during design review, construction supervision, testing, commissioning, and handover of bridge-related and infrastructure mechanical systems.
Your role
Technical Leadership & Subject Matter Expertise
- Act as the lead Mechanical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Clients.
- Provide technical guidance and specialist support to project management, engineering, construction, and commissioning teams.
- Review and validate mechanical engineering designs, specifications, calculations, and technical submissions.
- Ensure project mechanical systems are designed and constructed in accordance with project requirements, international standards, and client guidelines.
- Lead technical reviews and provide recommendations for optimizing system performance, reliability, and maintainability.
Design Review & Engineering Coordination
- Review mechanical design packages for compliance with applicable standards and specifications.
- Evaluate contractor shop drawings, material submittals, calculations, and technical proposals.
- Coordinate with civil, structural, electrical, ITS, utility, traffic, and architectural disciplines.
- Resolve design conflicts and multidisciplinary interface issues.
- Participate in value engineering and design optimization initiatives.
- Support technical approvals and design change assessments.
Construction Support & Technical Assurance
- Monitor construction activities related to mechanical systems installation.
- Verify installation quality and compliance with approved designs and specifications.
- Review contractor method statements and installation procedures.
- Resolve site-related technical issues and oversee corrective actions.
Testing & Commissioning
- Lead mechanical testing and commissioning activities.
- Review commissioning plans and procedures.
- Witness factory acceptance tests (FAT) and site acceptance tests (SAT).
- Verify system performance against design requirements.
- Ensure successful integration of mechanical systems with electrical, SCADA, and control systems.
- Support operational readiness reviews and handover processes.
Quality Management
- Ensure compliance with project quality plans and inspection requirements.
- Review inspection and test plans (ITPs) for mechanical works.
- Participate in audits, inspections, and quality reviews.
- Monitor non-conformance reports (NCRs) and corrective action programs.
- Ensure mechanical deliverables meet required quality standards.
Asset Reliability & Maintainability
- Review mechanical designs for operational efficiency and lifecycle performance.
- Ensure maintainability considerations are incorporated into project designs.
- Support development of operation and maintenance strategies.
- Review spare parts requirements and maintenance documentation.
- Participate in asset management planning and handover activities.
Risk Management
- Identify technical risks associated with mechanical systems.
- Develop mitigation strategies and engineering solutions.
- Review constructability, operability, and maintainability risks.
- Provide recommendations for reducing lifecycle and operational risks.
- Support technical risk assessments and project reviews.
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Ensure mechanical systems are designed and installed in compliance with project HSE requirements.
- Support safe construction and commissioning activities.
- Participate in hazard identification and safety reviews.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and sustainability objectives.
- Promote safe operation and maintenance practices.

About you
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, or Engineering Management is preferred.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Professional Engineer (PE) status is highly desirable.
- Membership with recognized institutions such as IMechE, ASME, or equivalent is preferred.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 15 years of experience in mechanical engineering within major infrastructure projects.
- Minimum 10 years of experience supporting bridge, highway, transportation, or urban infrastructure developments.
- Previous experience on mega infrastructure projects valued above USD 250 million.
- GCC and Saudi Arabia project experience is highly desirable.
