Senior Design Manager Landscape

Overview

The Design Manager – Landscape is responsible for overseeing and managing all landscape design activities across projects, ensuring alignment with client requirements, project objectives, and regulatory standards. The role combines design management, technical oversight, and landscape expertise within a Project Management Consultancy (PMC) environment to deliver high-quality, sustainable, and coordinated landscape solutions.

Your role

  • Lead and manage all landscape design activities from concept through detailed design and construction support.

  • Coordinate landscape design with multidisciplinary teams (architectural, civil, utilities, infrastructure, and MEP).

  • Review and validate landscape design submissions from consultants for compliance with project scope, quality standards, and regulations

  • Ensure design integration across disciplines through regular design reviews and clash detection processes.

  • Develop, monitor, and manage the landscape design programme aligned with overall project timelines.

  • Provide expert input on landscape design including planting strategies, irrigation, grading, drainage, and hardscape.

  • Review landscape concepts for functionality, sustainability, and aesthetic quality.

  • Ensure use of appropriate plant species (native, climate-appropriate, low-maintenance).

  • Assess environmental impact, soil conditions, hydrology, and long-term maintainability of proposed designs.

  • Verify implementation of sustainable design solutions, including water efficiency and green infrastructure.

  • Liaise with clients, authorities, and stakeholders for design approvals and compliance.

  • Participate in technical meetings with consultants and contractors to resolve design issues.

  • Support project reporting by providing updates on landscape design progress and risks.

  • Monitor design changes and assess their impact on cost, schedule, and quality. Support value engineering exercises for landscape elements without compromising quality.

  • Identify and mitigate design-related risks and technical challenges.

  • Provide technical support during construction phases, including responding to RFIs and reviewing shop drawings.

  • Oversee landscape implementation to ensure design intent is maintained.

  • Monitor site progress related to landscaping and coordinate with supervision teams

About you

  • Bachelor'S or Master's degree in Landscape Architecture or related field.

  • Minimum 12–15+ years of experience, including significant exposure to design management and landscape projects.

  • Proven experience in PMC, consultancy, or large-scale infrastructure/urban development projects.

  • Strong knowledge of Landscape design principles and urban design, Irrigation, grading, drainage, and sustainability practices and Design coordination across disciplines

  • Strong leadership and team management skills

  • Excellent coordination and stakeholder management abilities

  • Proficiency in design and coordination tools (AutoCAD, BIM, GIS, etc.)

  • Solid understanding of international standards, codes, and authority requirements

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills

  • Ability to balance design quality, cost, and constructability

  • Acts as client representative for landscape design oversight, rather than primary designer

  • Focus on review, governance, integration, and delivery assurance

  • Ensures consultants deliver coordinated, buildable, and compliant landscape designs
