Growing through challenges: Vincent’s journey at AtkinsRéalis

Today, I hold a hybrid role at AtkinsRéalis in Canada, that combines business development, project management, and technical project delivery. My career path reflects the opportunities I chose to embrace, driven by a constant desire to learn and take on new professional challenges.

From the very beginning of my career, I have been fortunate to work in environments where I was quickly entrusted with significant responsibilities. Whether contributing to projects in the healthcare, pharmaceutical, institutional, or industrial sectors, each experience allowed me to develop new skills and broaden my understanding of the engineer’s role in society.

Being involved in projects that have a tangible impact on communities continues to be a major source of motivation for me.

At AtkinsRéalis, I have found an environment that enables me to continuously grow, collaborate with passionate experts, and contribute to projects that make a real difference.

Seeing projects come to life

What I enjoy most about consulting engineering is its diversity.

Every client, project, and market comes with its own unique challenges. In a single day, I may go from reviewing detailed engineering calculations to participating in strategic meetings with decision-makers, then helping prepare proposals for new opportunities.

That said, my favorite moment is when a project moves from the design stage to actual construction and implementation. There is something especially rewarding about seeing plans and ideas take shape in the field. That is when all the work truly comes to life and its impact becomes tangible. Regardless of their size, every project holds special significance, both for those who deliver it and for those who ultimately benefit from it.

Why I chose AtkinsRéalis

Early in my career, while collaborating with engineering consulting firms, I already had the opportunity to witness the quality of the projects delivered by AtkinsRéalis teams.

What ultimately convinced me to join the company was the opportunity to contribute to complex, ambitious, and meaningful projects. The work we do creates tangible benefits for society. It helps improve critical infrastructure, support communities, and address real-world needs.

In addition, AtkinsRéalis offers several advantages: a flexible work environment, a high degree of autonomy, and a culture of trust that empowers teams to do their best work.

Developing more than technical skills

One of the greatest rewards of my journey at AtkinsRéalis has been the wide range of skills I have been able to develop.

While I have strengthened my expertise in building mechanical engineering and technical design, my growth has extended far beyond engineering itself.

Over the course of various projects, I have developed skills in:

  • Project management
  • Risk management
  • Financial oversight
  • Stakeholder relationship management
  • Business development
  • Leadership and team management
  • Collaboration with stakeholders across different sectors

The combination of technical, interpersonal, and business skills now enables me to take a holistic view of projects and better support both project delivery teams and clients.

A global company with a human approach

When people think of a global organization like AtkinsRéalis, they may imagine an impersonal work environment. My experience has been quite the opposite.

Instead, I discovered close-knit teams, approachable managers, and a culture that encourages open and authentic communication. You do not feel like just another name on an organizational chart.

For engineers who want to strengthen their technical expertise while advancing their careers, AtkinsRéalis offers an especially stimulating environment.

My advice to prospective candidates is simple: do not be intimidated by the size of the company. Despite its global presence, AtkinsRéalis is made up of human-sized teams where collaboration and mentorship play a central role.

Finding balance as life moves faster

The birth of my twins in February 2025 marked one of the most significant changes in my life.

Like many new parents, my spouse and I are still learning how to balance our professional responsibilities with our new family reality. In short, the principle of continuous improvement now applies to much more than professional projects!

Becoming a father has also helped me fully appreciate the importance of the trust and flexibility offered by my workplace. The support of my managers and colleagues allowed me to navigate this transition with far less pressure than I might otherwise have experienced.

This flexibility is invaluable when balancing professional responsibilities with the sometimes unpredictable realities of personal life.
