Overview

The Tekla Steel Modeller is responsible for creating accurate and detailed 3D structural steel models and fabrication drawings using Tekla Structures. The role involves close coordination with engineers, project managers, and other BIM/CAD professionals to ensure high‑quality deliverables aligned with project standards and schedules.

Your role

Model Development & Detailing

  • Develop detailed and accurate 3D steel structure models using Tekla Structures.
  • Produce GA drawings, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, shop drawings, and erection drawings.
  • Model steel elements including beams, columns, trusses, bracings, connections, base plates, and miscellaneous steel components.
  • Create NC files, bolt lists, material lists, and other relevant fabrication outputs.
  • Should be proficient in full‑structure modelling as well as connection detailing.

Coordination & Communication

  • Coordinate with structural engineers, connection designers, and project teams to understand design intent.
  • Raise RFIs / TQs to clarify missing or conflicting information.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure model consistency.

Quality & Standards

  • Ensure compliance with project BIM standards, steel detailing standards, and company QA procedures.
  • Apply relevant international codes, including AISC, BS, EN standards (project-specific).
  • Conduct model checks and perform self‑review to eliminate clashes and inconsistencies.

Technical Skills & Productivity

  • Use Tekla tools, macros, and standard components to improve modelling efficiency.
  • Set up and manage Tekla model files, templates, custom components, and drawing settings.
  • Update models and drawings based on design revisions and project updates.
    Maintain organized documentation, version control, and model backups.

Team Collaboration

  • Support engineers and team members by contributing to project planning and delivery.
  • Provide guidance to junior modellers (if required).
  • Coordinate effectively with fabrication teams (if applicable) to ensure buildability.

About you

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or bachelor's degree in civil/Structural Engineering or related discipline.
    3–10+ years of experience in structural steel modelling and detailing.
  • Strong hands‑on experience in Tekla Structures (latest and recent versions).
  • Good understanding of structural steel design principles and fabrication processes.
  • Familiarity with connection detailing, steel member naming conventions, and workshop requirements.
  • Ability to independently create complete 3D steel models including miscellaneous items (stair, ladder etc), produce all types of drawings (GA, fabrication, assembly, shop, erection) with custom templates, and prepare estimation and quantity take‑offs for steel structures.
  • Ability to interpret and work from structural drawings, design sketches, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of BIM workflows, industry standards, and international codes (AISC/BS/EN).
  • Strong attention to detail, problem‑solving skills, and ability to work independently or within a team.

Preferred Skills (Optional)

  • Experience working on international projects (US/UK/Europe/Middle East).
  • Basic understanding of Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, or other BIM tools.
  • Experience in custom components, Tekla API, or automation tools.
