Trackwork Installation Manager

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada | Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada

Overview

Project Description: The Surrey Langley SkyTrain project ("SLS Project") will extend the Expo Line 16 kilometers primarily along Fraser Highway from King George SkyTrain Station in Surrey to Langley City. It will improve regional connections and provide fast, frequent, and reliable transit service for people and businesses across Metro Vancouver, especially south of the Fraser River.

The Trackwork Installation Manager will oversee the complete installation of track infrastructure—including LIM rail, power rail, and special trackwork—on the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain project. This leadership role spans all project phases, from planning and execution through final commissioning, and is responsible for managing multiple work fronts to ensure safety, quality, and schedule compliance.

The Installation Manager will directly supervise multiple Trackwork Superintendents, as well as a team of field engineers and coordinators, while coordinating with subcontractors, designers, and suppliers as necessary. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise in SkyTrain systems, exceptional organizational skills, and proven leadership in managing complex rail installations.

Your role

  • Lead and manage all trackwork installation activities across the Surrey-Langley corridor, including supervision of Trackwork Superintendents, field engineers, and coordinators to ensure effective execution of work plans.
  • Oversee planning, scheduling, and resource allocation for trackwork operations, including monitoring progress and providing regular reporting on installation status, risks, and mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, quality requirements, and project timelines.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and self-performed crews for efficient delivery of LIM rail, power rail, mainline and special trackwork.
  • Overseeing site surveys to gather information for the track system design and installation.
  • Interface with project management, design teams, and client representatives to resolve technical and logistical challenges.
  • Collaborating with project teams, including structural engineers, geotechnical engineers, and contractors, to ensure the successful implementation of the track system.
  • Support commissioning activities and handover of completed trackwork systems.

About you

  • A bachelor'S or master's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • 10 years of relevant experience in construction of track systems for rail infrastructure projects.
  • Professional Engineer's license would be considered an asset, including familiarity with computer-aided design (CAD) software and project management tools.
  • Extensive experience in trackwork installation on SkyTrain or similar transit projects, including in-depth knowledge of LIM rail, power rail, and direct-fixation special trackwork systems.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience supervising multiple crews and subcontractors.
  • Ability to manage multiple scopes and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to manage complex schedules and maintain high safety and quality standards.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
