Overview

The Strategic Planning practice in AtkinsRéalis India is currently expanding to contribute to the different sectors including Property, Infrastructure & Transportation, across regions all around the world. We are keen to take on board highly motivated and capable urban planners to shape a well-integrated team delivering projects across the globe.

Your role

  • Take ownership and lead small to medium Urban Planning projects and work packages under the supervision of Senior Urban Planners / Practice Leads.
  • Develop Spatial Planning and regional planning analysis and concepts using ArcGIS, 3D and digital mediums.
  • Responsible for spatial and urban analytics by analyzing demographic, socio-economic, land use and spatial datasets. Develop GIS, FME (Feature Manipulation Engine) (preferred) and Excel-based analyses.
  • Responsible for the collection, validation, integration, and management of datasets from multiple sources.
  • Develop, document and maintain efficient, reproducible analytical workflows and spatial databases.
  • Develop scripts and tools to automate data processing and analysis workflows for automation and digital innovation.
  • Be responsible for production of drawings, graphics, models and reports through Baseline Assessment to Implementation stages.
  • Lead Middle East projects with complete design and delivery ownership, reporting to Practice Lead.
  • Draft technical reports, presentations and contractual documents of acceptable technical and presentation quality with minimum guidance.
  • Work to a program for the project and proactively advise senior team members of any issue which affects the efficient completion of the project.
  • Set out/agree design standards and parameters with senior team members.
  • Check the work of team members and ensure the quality of deliverables meet AtkinsRéalis standards of delivery and client expectations.
  • Be willing to undertake, and where required, lead interdisciplinary technical coordination.
  • Be responsible for completion of specifically assigned tasks to time and cost.
  • Assign work to junior team members (Urban Designers, Urban Planners), GIS Analysts, BIM/CAD Technologists and administrative staff.
  • Use business-related software like ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, Adobe Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), etc., independently with the ability to work with team members.
  • Demonstrate competency in software, clear communication skills to gain understanding of required tasks, and a quick and methodical decision-making approach for design and related tasks.
  • Successfully identify and follow through on leads/suggestions associated with additional work prospects on projects.
  • Travel, when required, to different AtkinsRéalis offices and sites globally and interface with teams based there.
  • Demonstrate strategic thinking to expand the Strategic Planning/Master Planning business across different regions in the Middle East.
  • Contribute to bids and proposals to win work.
  • Cross over through design thinking between the three disciplines of the practice on large-scale projects.
  • Design and manage multi-disciplinary urban development projects.
  • Liaise with clients and stakeholders for positive project outcomes.
  • Ensure the team is aware of the design standards, codes and compliances of countries within the Middle East region and that these are complied with in the design.

About you

Qualification

  • A Master's degree in Urban Planning / Urbanism from universities of national and international repute is a must. A Bachelor's degree in Architecture is preferred.
  • 5 to 8 years of professional working experience in Spatial Planning, Regional Planning / Master Planning projects in a reputed firm. Middle East experience will be an added advantage.
  • Chartered candidates shall have an added advantage.

Technical Competency

  • Must have good experience delivering Spatial Planning, Regional Planning and Urban Planning projects. Strong understanding of statistics and predictive analytics.
  • Use GIS, analytical and AI-based tools to support assessments and visual storytelling.
  • Carry out and review research, data collection and spatial analysis to support development strategies.
  • Must be very proficient in design, with strong conceptual principles, spatial analytical skills, design skills, presentation skills and graphical skills.
  • Working knowledge of standard regulations and best practice principles, with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated, forward-looking master plans.
  • International experience in the UK, Middle East or APAC regions will be considered an added advantage.
  • Experienced in coordination with clients and other consultants.
  • Must be conversant with the evolving standards of the profession, particularly with respect to collaborative and multidisciplinary design.
  • Must be proficient in AutoCAD, GIS (QGIS or ArcGIS), Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator, MS Office, Advanced Excel, SketchUp and Google Pro. Experience with AI-based or data visualization tools is preferred. Candidates with FME and Python knowledge are favored.
  • Working knowledge and keenness to explore digital innovation, coding, AI software and further prototyping competencies will be considered an added advantage.

  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English.
  • Capable of working on own initiative or as part of a larger multidisciplinary team. Must display capabilities to lead a team, hold meetings and interact with clients.
  • Have a logical and organized approach to project delivery and be able to follow instructions and guidance from senior team members.
  • Be aware of the effect of delivery time on financial performance and proactively manage time, resources and budget on a project.
  • Able to identify and communicate concerns of the project/team to the immediate Line Manager.
  • Able to discuss career goals and aspirations.
  • Willingness to share information and knowledge with team members.
  • Demonstrate initiative and basic leadership skills to give direction within a small work group.
  • Show commitment to raising design standards, improving skills, keeping up with the latest technical and digital developments and staying current with the field of urbanism generally.
  • Ability to work and cross over into all interrelated disciplines of Planning, Landscape and Urban Design.
