How recruitment roles at AtkinsRéalis can lead to HR team leadership

HR Career Growth at AtkinsRéalis: My Path to Leadership

Hello, I'm Vijay, an HR leader at AtkinsRéalis in India

When I first embarked on my professional journey, I couldn't have imagined the incredible path I would take at AtkinsRéalis. From my early days as a recruitment advisor to becoming a leader in the HR domain, every step of my career has been a testament to the growth and opportunities that it has provided.

Opportunities: Growing from recruitment advisor to recruitment lead

My journey began as the third member of a pilot team supporting the UK recruitment market. It was an opportunity to showcase my talent for sourcing candidates, which quickly gained recognition. As my skills and expertise grew, so did my role. I was soon promoted to recruitment lead, responsible for managing recruitment efforts across the transport planning and intelligent mobility business units. This was just the beginning of a career filled with learning and new challenges.

Progression: Stakeholder management and cross-team collaboration

One of the defining moments of my career was when I approached my manager with the idea of expanding my horizons within the company. I wanted to explore new opportunities, and AtkinsRéalis gave me the freedom to do so. I transitioned into supporting the Infrastructure Practice, encompassing the Engineering and Environmental sectors. This was an exciting time for me—working with new stakeholders, broadening my skillset, and truly embracing the art of stakeholder management. I learned that consistency and effective communication are vital to long-term success in managing relationships.

Leadership: driving recruitment strategies and leading dynamic teams

As my career progressed, I transitioned from being an Individual Contributor (IC) to a leadership role. This shift marked a pivotal moment in my professional journey, giving me the opportunity to reflect on what truly motivates me. Taking on the responsibility of executing recruitment strategies, managing teams, and collaborating cross-functionally was both challenging and rewarding. The support and culture at AtkinsRéalis played a crucial role in helping me thrive in this new role. And, I found myself leading a 17-strong team dedicated to Early Careers recruitment.

Teamwork: prioritizing candidate experience while scaling operations

Throughout my time at AtkinsRéalis, I've had the privilege to witness significant growth. The recruitment team, which started with just three people, has now expanded to a dynamic team of 70, with a streamlined focus on sourcing and operations. This growth has allowed us to prioritize the candidate experience while maint/aining the quality of our work, even as the needs of our teams and the people they serve continue to evolve. I've also seen the People Hub team evolve, with over 250 HR professionals supporting different regions. Being a part of this transformation has been an incredible journey.
