The Win Work team is an integral part of the Business Development team, working across our Transportation markets and practices to drive responsible growth. As a valued member of our team, you’ll gain exposure to the fundamentals of business development and business strategy and work with fantastic bid teams across the business. The role will allow you to develop and enhance skills which will help grow your career at AtkinsRéalis. As part of the graduate scheme, we offer exciting secondment opportunities to allow you to experience different business areas of AtkinsRéalis to further develop you professionally.

Your role will involve working with bid managers to prepare submissions, preparing research and client intelligence documents in advance of tender opportunities, contributing to the ‘smarter bidding’ drive and bidding best practice initiatives to improve quality, cost-effectiveness, system compliance and the success of all bid submissions. You will also have the opportunity to assist the Win Work team in monitoring and maintaining future pipeline in order to track longer-term business opportunities in key client and market sectors.

You will be bidding on a range of challenging and exciting infrastructure projects across the UK for our key clients such as HS2 and National Highways. We work collaboratively across the UK, so you’ll be involved in bids/projects with colleagues from a variety of backgrounds and cultures.

AtkinsRéalis Rail Systems provides whole life cycle solutions from scheme concept development to detailed design, construction, commissioning and asset management. We are delivering some of the UK’s largest projects. We directly influence the lives of people across the UK and overseas by improving their passenger experience, making their journeys better and making our world a greener place to live.

As a Graduate Project Manager you will develop through a fast-tracked scheme consisting of rotational placements around the business with opportunities available in both the UK and overseas. You will have the opportunity to work with our Design, Construction, Digital, Commercial and Project Management teams (just to name a few) and be involved in delivering some of the most exciting rail systems projects across the UK and beyond.

Day to day responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and Delivering railway signalling projects for both public and private clients
  • Assisting Project Management teams to ensure effective project delivery
  • Maximising the use of digital tools to facilitate world class delivery
  • Gaining extensive site experience
  • Managing the progress of project deliverables
  • Managing and mitigating project risks and opportunities
  • Continuously managing project change
  • Ensuring that the project runs to budget and planned programme
  • Management of Project Stakeholders, the Procurement process and Project Scope
  • Ensuring the project is within Governance
  • Monitoring Project performance and presenting this to the business and client
  • Supporting the preparation of estimations
  • Drafting bid documentation for tenders
  • Facilitating team and sub-contractor project meetings

About our team and projects:We are seeking Graduates to join our exciting team at Heathrow Airport. The Heathrow team is part of the Airports division, which sits under the wider Rail Systems – Transportation Systems practice. Our team at Heathrow manage all IT & Telecoms projects for the client. The team currently has around 200 people in it, made up of Project Managers, Designers, Project Engineers, Construction Managers, Support Engineers, Test & Commissioning Engineers and Project Management Office staff. The projects can range from a small network port installation to large multimillion pound projects. The Projects we manage and look after including, but not limited to, CCTV, Access Control, Wi-Fi, Radar, biometrics, Passenger Flow Monitoring systems, ANPR, Display screens & Radio.

As a graduate, you will be working alongside main contractors who are responsible for the design and installation of projects. You will gain experience of all phases of design and build projects including initial concept designs, further design development, construction, test & support. Within this exciting and varied role you’ll undertake a variety of technical tasks including:

  • Contracts & Commercials
  • Delivery & Install
  • Procurement & Resource planning
  • HSQE/CDM
  • Project Reporting
  • Quality audits
  • Site inspections and supervision and
  • Other project related task

AtkinsRéalis has a large presence within the airport sector and there are opportunities to gain experience and exposure to multiple portfolio streams including the Security Programme, Business Transformation and the Information Communication Systems (ICS) Programme. As part of the graduate programme, we actively encourage Graduates to develop their skillset, supporting the journey along the way with professional mentoring.

We offer opportunities to carry out exciting secondments to gain a better understanding of the project lifecycle. This may include design or engineering, as well as the chance to work within other transportation environments such as Rail & Highways. We work collaboratively and globally, so you’ll be involved in projects with colleagues from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. As AtkinsRéalis is a global company there may be opportunities for overseas working.

This varied graduate scheme will enable successful candidates to develop towards a professional qualification with a relevant institution such as the APM, providing you with a mentor to help you understand and complete the requirements every step of the way.

AtkinsRéalis, Balfour Beatty and Egis Road Operations UK are part of a consortium, creating Connect Plus Services, a unique partnership with a collective strength in highways asset care from finance, through to design, build, maintenance as well as day to day operation.

As part of our 30-year remit to manage and improve the capital’s orbital motorway network we deliver major improvement projects such as widening 38 miles of the M25 refurbishing tunnels and bridges and installing hundreds of variable messaging signs and gantries helping to maximise the use of the network and deliver more reliable journeys. We also manage the Dartford River crossing and operate and maintain 440 kilometres of motorway providing our customer and road user with a world-class highway service every day. Our role also involves managing the operation of the network identifying ways of reducing delays improving journey time reliability.

Schemes range in value from £100k to £3m+ include safety schemes environmental improvements technology schemes remedial works junction improvement schemes.

We have graduate project management opportunities available within a variety of roles.

Working in Civil Engineering Project Management role your responsibilities could include:

  • Developing maintaining strong collaborative relationships with Portfolio Manager key internal external stakeholders ensure full mutual understanding projects’ delivery objectives report on implement new project performance agree solutions overcome obstacles.
  • Designing agreeing implementing project plans ensure all activities appropriately organised deliver project objectives appropriately resourced deliver required outcomes.
  • Supporting projects throughout whole lifecycle through feasibility design construction informing investment proposals for clients
  • Identifying analysing risks issues dependencies constraints associated with projects developing agree appropriate, where necessary develop agree implement solutions overcome these

Working in an IT/Digital project management role you will:

  • Deliver discreet smaller pieces work/projects agreed timelines costs quality
  • Develop test pilot produce digital project documentation line Digital Data Services Project Managers
  • Ensure Projects costs risks issues tracked managed correctly
  • Work closely with project resources stakeholders ensuring project planning delivery

The AtkinsRéalis Transportation Project Delivery Practice (PDP) is the centre of excellence for the delivery of Major Transportation infrastructure projects and combines the best in project management and design management to provide a full suite of services to clients in the public and private sectors. The team is responsible for delivery of design services across our Rail and Transit, Strategic and Regional Highways and Local Transport Markets.

We have several vacancies within both the Rail and Transit and Strategic and Regional Highways Market & Local Transport team within PDP.

This is an exciting opportunity for graduates who are looking to develop into professional Project Managers and Project Directors with the AtkinsRéalis business, where there is a limitless number of career paths to take. There are also many specialisms within the project management function – project controls, commercial management and risk management for example. Working alongside the wider engineering teams, you will be supporting the delivery of schemes to budget and schedule and quality standards working closely with the appointed Project Managers and Project Directors.

Your typical responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the safe delivery of the project to agreed schedule, budget, scope, and quality.
  • Supporting the Project Manager in ensuring that appropriate resources are appointed to deliver the project and that suitable control measures are in place to monitor and manage delivery.
  • Supporting the successful technical and commercial delivery of the project in accordance with AtkinsRéalis governance requirements.
  • Providing bid phase support on medium to small projects.
  • Supporting project management and contract administration throughout the project life cycle.
  • Clear and accurate monitoring and reporting of project performance against programme, technical quality, financial and KPI targets; both internally and externally.

We are also affiliated with the Association for Project Management as the main professional body representing Project Managers in the UK and we actively encourage our project professionals to achieve their professional qualifications with the APM.
