About our team and projects: At AtkinsRéalis our Highways communications team are involved in a range of projects in the UK and other locations globally, designing and delivering technology infrastructure and systems to improve the safety and efficiency of the highway and road tunnels network. Our exciting designs incorporate a range of technologies including digital CCTV, radar, LED signs & signals, electronic detection systems, tunnel safety systems and both fixed & wireless telecommunications networks to monitor and manage traffic. We use digital tools for equipment and infrastructure placement, optimising cable routes and producing power cable designs.

Our expertise is applied during all stages of a project lifecycle, from initial conception through to detailed design, construction, commissioning, and handover. We make extensive use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) which enables 3D models to be created by our engineering teams. We encourage innovation to ensure systems are designed, delivered, and commissioned to exacting client standards. We also provide on-site expertise for construction and commissioning activities along with safety critical inspections.

We showcase this expertise on all projects we deliver. One in particular – the A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon Upgrade – involved the design and upgrade of over 21 miles of new and existing highways. Our practice produced the design for the signs, signals, vehicle detection systems, traffic counting and classification, CCTV, roadside telephony, and communications networks. Our graduates were instrumental in the undertaking of this design work and were provided the opportunity to work on-site during the construction phase of this high-profile scheme.

Your role:As a Graduate Engineer you will work within our design teams, producing designs, supporting calculations, preparing technical reports, specifications and other documentation across a wide range of high-profile highway and road tunnel infrastructure projects. You will also be given opportunities to support our construction partners by implementing our solutions on site, ensuring our design solutions can be deployed successfully. By joining our graduate scheme, you will become part of our community of Graduate Engineers at various stages of the development programme. Together you will complete training courses, meet-up for shared learning days and fun social events.

Our graduate scheme provides a variety of learning experiences including technical, management, commercial and leadership to enable a fulfilling career with AtkinsRéalis. We offer exciting secondments to gain a better understanding of the project lifecycle as well as the chance to work within other transportation environments such as Rail & Airports. The scheme will enable successful candidates to develop towards chartership with a relevant institution such as the IET providing you with a mentor to help you understand and complete the requirements every step of the way.
