Step into an engineering career: AtkinsRéalis’ electrical engineering apprenticeships

The apprenticeship route to becoming a qualified electrical engineer is exciting and rewarding!

The journey to becoming a qualified electrical engineer is exciting and rewarding. You can go down many different avenues to get your foot in the door of this career path. Today, we'll focus on degree apprenticeship routes into this field.

At AtkinsRéalis, we currently offer two distinct pathways into electrical engineering (although these can change each year), and these are:

As with all of our apprenticeships, the above combines practical work experience with academic study and is tailored to unique industry needs and projects. Read on to find out just what you can expect from the Level 6 Electrical Engineering Apprenticeships on offer at AtkinsRéalis.

Our apprenticeship pathways into electrical engineering jobs

Electrical or Electronic Technical Support Engineer

Let's break down this pathway further so you know what to expect before you apply.

  • Typically, the duration of this degree apprenticeship is five to six years although the duration may vary depending on your experience.
  • Generally speaking, candidates typically need 5 GCSEs at grade C or above in Maths, English, and either a Science, Technology, or Engineering-related subject.
  • Electrical or Electronic Technical Support Engineers bring concepts to life and resolve issues found within the manufacturing process.
  • Stepping into this degree apprenticeship will teach you how to produce electrical drawings, how to write and test electrical equipment, and much more.

Embedded Electronic Systems Design and Development Engineer

The second apprenticeship we have on offer here at AtkinsRéalis is in the design and development of electronic systems. Here's a breakdown of this degree apprenticeship:

  • You can apply your knowledge and understanding of electronics and embedded software to design circuits and devices.
  • You'll get to design reliable, safe, and cost-effective devices and your career could take you into exciting sectors such as aerospace, and renewable energy.
  • You'll learn practical skills like circuit design, software programming, and project management.
  • To be eligible for this scheme, apprentices typically will hold A-Levels in STEM subjects and GCSE level English and Maths, however requirements can vary

At AtkinsRéalis, both of these pathways will see you helping us to create sustainable solutions that connect people, data, and technology while transforming the world's energy systems. And those aren't the only reasons why you should consider joining us.
