Your Role

  • The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the planning, design, engineering, coordination, and implementation of electrical systems for airport infrastructure projects. The role ensures that all airport electrical facilities, including power distribution, airfield ground lighting (AGL), terminal systems, backup power, and associated infrastructure, are designed and delivered in compliance with aviation regulations, safety standards, and operational requirements.
  • Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs for airport electrical systems. Design electrical infrastructure for Passenger terminals, Airside facilities, Cargo terminals, Maintenance facilities. Utility buildings, Airport support facilities. Prepare single-line diagrams (SLDs), load calculations, and power distribution layouts. Design medium-voltage (MV) and low-voltage (LV) power systems.
  • Design and coordinate Runway lighting systems, Taxiway lighting systems, Apron floodlighting systems, Approach lighting systems, Airfield signage and guidance systems. Ensure compliance with ICAO Annex 14 and relevant aviation standards. Design Constant Current Regulator (CCR) systems and AGL control systems.
  • Design airport electrical substations and transformer systems. Prepare power demand and load forecasting studies. Develop electrical network distribution schemes. Provide redundancy and reliability analyses for critical airport operations. Coordinate utility power connections with local power authorities.
  • Design standby power systems including Diesel generators, UPS systems, Emergency lighting systems and Critical operations backup systems. Ensure compliance with airport operational continuity requirements.
  • Perform Electrical load calculations, Voltage drop assessments, Short-circuit studies, Protection coordination studies, Earthing and lightning protection studies and Harmonic analysis where required. Evaluate energy efficiency and sustainability opportunities.
  • Coordinate with Airport planners, Airfield engineers, MEP engineers, ICT specialists, Security system designers, Civil and structural engineers. Support multidisciplinary design reviews and coordination meetings.
  • Ensure designs comply with ICAO standards, FAA and EASA guidelines (as applicable), National Electrical Codes, IEC Standards and Local utility requirements. Support airport certification and operational readiness activities.

About You

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Master's Degree in Electrical Power Systems or Airport Infrastructure.
  • Previous electrical engineering or design role within Engineering consultancy.
  • 1-5+ years of experience in electrical design. Experience in commercial, industrial, infrastructure, or airport projects.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Autodesk AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit MEP. Awareness of Civil 3D for coordination purposes.
  • Good understanding of Water supply and wastewater systems.
  • Utility coordination and underground services.
  • BIM workflows and data management.
  • Experience working on UK / Middle East / International aviation projects is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative BIM team.
  • Knowledge of ACC / ProjectWise, Navisworks, and clash detection workflows.
  • Exposure to scripting or automation (Dynamo, Lisp, etc.) is a plus.
  • Undertake design of a variety of electrical design elements i.e. LV Distribution, Earthing & Bonding, Lighting, Cable management system and Building power designs.
  • Carry out Electrical calculations using Dialux, Amtech, Relux, and other equivalent software.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience of the use of BS7671, BS 50122, BS5266 and BS5839.
  • Assist the Team leader/Senior Engineer in presenting design solutions in meeting with clients and contractors.

Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Electrical Engineer to support the planning, design, and delivery of airport infrastructure projects. The role involves the design, analysis, and coordination of electrical systems within airside, landside facilities, utilities, and associated airport infrastructure, including Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) systems.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing electrical engineering designs from concept through detailed design stages, ensuring compliance with applicable aviation regulations, national codes, client requirements, and industry best practices. The engineer will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including civil, mechanical, architectural, ICT, baggage handling, and airport planning specialists, to deliver safe, reliable, and sustainable airport facilities.

Key areas of responsibility include power supply and distribution systems, substations, standby power systems, UPS systems, airfield ground lighting systems, small power systems, renewable energy integration, earthing and lightning protection systems, and electrical design coordination for airport infrastructure developments.
