AtkinsRéalis is seeking an early‑career Instrumentation and Controls Technician to join its team based in Montreal.
In this role, you will actively participate in the execution of multidisciplinary projects across various industrial sectors, contributing at every stage of the project life cycle—from feasibility studies through to commissioning.
The successful candidate will be involved in the preparation of drawings and specifications, instrumentation design and selection, programming and configuration of automation systems, as well as providing technical support on site and during commissioning. You will work closely with engineers, technicians, and project teams to ensure quality, compliance, and the successful delivery of projects.

Your Role
- Participate in engineering studies.
- Attend client meetings to define instrumentation and controls requirements and installation constraints.
- Conduct site surveys and/or facility inspections.
- Contribute to the preparation of design criteria and cost estimates.
- Prepare drawings and technical specifications in accordance with applicable standards and regulations.
- Design control panels and cabinets and select instrumentation.
- Program and configure automation components (PLC, HMI/SCADA, Historian, etc.).
- Participate in commissioning activities (pre‑operational checks, testing, calibration, etc.).
- Work as part of a team with technicians and engineers on specific projects.
- Ensure compliance with company and client quality standards (effectively applying the ISO 9001 Quality System through corporate policies, procedures, and instructions).
- Perform any other tasks related to the nature of the position.

About You
We are looking for a candidate who demonstrates growing autonomy and a strong commitment to quality, and who can add value throughout the entire project life cycle.
The following qualities and skills are particularly desirable:
- Experience in consulting engineering (a strong asset).
- Overall understanding of applicable industrial codes, regulations, and standards (a strong asset).
- Strong interest in new technologies (industrial networks, industrial IT, IIoT/diagnostics systems, etc.).
- ASP Construction safety card (depending on assignments) — an asset.
Requirements
- Diploma of Vocational Studies (DEP) or equivalent in Instrumentation & Controls or Automation.
- More than 3 years of experience in instrumentation and controls.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical; good general computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Bilingual (French and English).
- Experience in industrial environments, including pharmaceutical, agri‑food, and airport sectors (an asset).
- Basic knowledge of industrial networking (an asset).
- Basic knowledge of machine safety (an asset).
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate strong teamwork skills.
- Ability to manage several small projects simultaneously.
- Strong technical writing skills.
- Experience with various automation platforms (Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, AVEVA Wonderware, etc.).
- Ability to travel occasionally to client sites.
* This position requires knowledge of a language other than French, namely English, as the clients and/or suppliers you will interact with are primarily English-speaking and located outside Québec.
