Overview
We are currently seeking a Junior Geotechnical Engineer to join AtkinsRéalis' Geotechnical Team in Calgary, Alberta. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the team on a variety of projects for various clients, primarily within the province of Alberta with opportunities to work across the country. The ideal candidate is an emerging professional within the industry with a working knowledge of soils and typical construction practices within the region, and a desire to expand their technical skillset. The position will be based out of Calgary, AB.
Your role
- Coordinate and supervise to geotechnical investigations and assessments.
- Conduct field inspections and monitoring of construction activities.
- Lead, coordinate, plan, schedule, manage, dispute management and provide on-the-spot resolutions with sub-contractors, while coordinating with technical lead.
- Undertake geotechnical assessments using specialized softwares such as GeoStudio, Rocscience and PLAXIS.
- Understand materials testing objectives, construction drawings and design reports to support geotechnical investigation and design recommendations.
- Provide guidance and troubleshooting for quality control testing and performance of materials such as soil, concrete and asphalt.
- Contribute to the development of project proposals/cost estimates and participate in the process of securing new business opportunities or expanding the scope of existing projects.
- Analyze and prepare recommendations and reports for projects relating to foundation design, infrastructure, shoring, retaining walls, slope stability, road structure design, dikes and dams, materials testing, and other geotechnical related projects.
About you
- Holds a bachelor'S or advanced degree in Geological, Civil (with geotechnical focus) or Geotechnical Engineering.
- Has an aptitude and skillset for leading, coordinating, managing, resolving conflicts and on the spot resolutions with sub-contractors.
- Has 1-3 years relevant industry experience, since graduation, in geotechnical engineering related services.
- Is registered or eligible for registration with APEGA as Engineer-in-Training designation.
- Holds a valid Canadian driver's license with a clean driver abstract.
