Junior GIS and Environmental Data Specialist (French Speaker)

Your role

  • Phase I ESA Support – Documentary Research
  • Conduct reviews of historical records (previous reports, databases, maps, aerial photographs, regulatory registries, etc.).
  • Compile, organize, and synthesize information related to historical site use.
  • Extract and structure data required for the preparation of documentary sections of Phase I ESA reports.
  • Support project managers in the preliminary identification of potential environmental concerns (without final interpretation).
  • Phase II ESA Support – Environnemental Data Management
  • Import, validate, and manage field and laboratory data within environmental databases (e.g., EQuIS).
  • Verify data accuracy, consistency, and completeness (chain of custody, units, analytical methods, coordinates, etc.).
  • Correct identified errors and perform quality control on datasets.
  • Prepare data tables, figures, borehole logs, and other data-related deliverables.
  • Perform basic trend analyses and descriptive statistics under supervision.
  • Transform and export data for use in third-party software (e.g., GIS, AutoCAD, ProUCL, GWSDAT).
  • Information Management and Project Support
  • Ensure structured management of project files (naming conventions, version control, archiving).
  • Review historical documents to extract, transform, and integrate data into environmental databases.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams located across different time zones.
  • Comply with confidentiality, information security, and quality requirements specific to Canadian projects.
  • Documentary research and analysis of historical data (Phase I); and
  • Management, validation, and processing of environmental data generated from field and laboratory activities (Phase II).
  • This position does not involve fieldwork but requires a solid understanding of environmental site characterization concepts and a high level of rigor in information management and data handling.
  • This position is open to hybrid work arrangements as well as other office locations.

About you

  • Bilingual (English/French).
  • Higher education (preferable: Env. Science, Geography, Hydrogeology, Physics, and GIS).
  • Post-secondary education in a related field (certificate, diploma, or bachelor's degree).
  • Strong proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, with advanced skills in Excel.
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong ability to learn quickly and adapt to foreign standards and practices.
  • Good time management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with teams across different time zones.
  • Strong organizational skills, reliability, and respect for deadlines.
  • Technical / Software Skills Considered an Asset
  • Experience or familiarity with EarthSoft EQuIS.
  • Knowledge of gINT, AutoCAD (2014 or later), EnviroInsite.
  • Skills in Microsoft Access, including query creation and data extraction.
  • Basic knowledge of soil and groundwater site characterization principles.
  • Strong interest in contaminated site characterization and remediation projects.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in task planning, scheduling, and organization.
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to maintain positive working relationships with management and office staff across all offices.
  • Environmental sciences, geology, hydrogeology, chemistry, biology, or a related discipline (certificate, diploma, or bachelor's degree).
  • The Junior Environmental Professional provides remote technical support to Cairo teams responsible for Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), in accordance with standards and practices in force in Cairo.
  • Require min 0 to 2 years of relevant experience.
