Overview
As a Lead Engineer within our Drainage team, you will lead the end-to-end design, coordination, and delivery of stormwater drainage solutions for major infrastructure and highway projects across all stages, including feasibility, planning, detailed design, and construction support.
You will be responsible for ensuring full compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements across regions such as the UK, Ireland, the US, and Canada, including Network Rail, Transport Infrastructure Ireland, SuDS principles, Local Authority specifications, UK Sewerage Sector Guidance, and DOT standards. A key element of this role is delivering robust hydraulic and hydrological modelling using industry-standard software such as InfoDrainage, Causeway Flow, and InfoWorks ICM, alongside effective BIM coordination using Autodesk and Bentley platforms.
Your role
- Lead the design and delivery of rail drainage and stormwater solutions across multiple project stages.
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards and guidance, including Network Rail/HS2, SuDS, Local .Authority requirements, and Sewerage Sector Guidance.
- Manage project programmes, budgets, and associated risks to ensure successful delivery.
- Oversee the preparation of technical documentation, reports, and Bills of Quantities (BoQs).
- Proactively engage with the team, lead office, and other stakeholders to deliver efficient and innovative design solutions.
- Coordinate effectively within multidisciplinary teams, including BIM integration using Autodesk and Bentley platforms.
- Engage with clients, local authorities, regulators, and statutory bodies to secure approvals and ensure compliance.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to junior team members.
- Support delivery across all design stages, including construction support.

About you
- A minimum of 10+ years of experience in stormwater management in the UK and Ireland is mandatory.
- A bachelor's degree in civil engineering is required; a master's'in water resources or environmental engineering is desirable
- Proficiency in InfoDrainage and Causeway Flow is desirable
- Hands-on experience with MicroStation and OpenBuildings Designer/Rail Designer is an advantage
- Proficiency in Network Rail, HS2, Irish Rail standards, CIRIA standards, and Sewerage Sector Guidance
- Knowledge of international codes (US, Canada, and the Middle East) would be an advantage
- In-depth knowledge of UK drainage standards, design practices, and approval processes
- Strong understanding of fundamental concepts, principles, and theories of system integration as applied to multidisciplinary designs and stormwater engineering
- Knowledge of wet utilities (foul water, potable water, and treated sewage effluent) is an advantage
- Strong understanding of Occupational Safety and Health (Construction Work) (Design and Management) Regulations
- Understanding of sustainable solutions and their integration with stormwater drainage systems
- Flexibility and openness to adopting new ideas and digital delivery methods; proactive in implementing digital tools and systems for improved project delivery
- High level of accountability for technical delivery
- Ability to work autonomously within established procedures and practices
- Inclusive mindset, valuing diverse perspectives and engaging stakeholders at all levels
- Chartered Engineer (CEng, MICE, or equivalent), or actively working towards chartership
- Working towards attaining Contractor's Responsible Engineer (CRE) and Contractor's'Engineering Manager (CEM) certification
