Senior Multidiscipline Designer

Mississauga, Ontario, Canada | Pickering, Ontario, Canada

Overview

The Candu New Build FEED Engineering group is focused on new and groundbreaking projects, allowing a chance to influence future design decisions – and we want you to be part of it! For this role, you can be based in either our Pickering or Mississauga, ON, offices, within a hybrid working environment.

The team is in "start-up mode", so this is a hands-on position, with everyone helping to achieve our commitments, and go above and beyond to impress our clients. Our team will always be the first in the door with potential new build clients, so our goals are to enable follow-on large-scale projects for our company and repeat business for ourselves. As such, this is a dynamic role that requires breadth of perspective and knowledge, along with ability to perform all required drafting work to the right level of effort and quality.

Your role

  • Plan and undertake or oversee all required multi-discipline (civil, architectural, mechanical, process, electrical) drafting design activities for the active projects. Activities will vary depending on project scope.
  • Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed site and other composite database-driven 3D models.
  • Generate sketches for documents and engagement materials, and appropriate packages of 2D drawings including site layout drawings (plan, elevation and section views), general assembly drawings, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), isometrics, flow diagrams and flowsheets, electrical schematics, and data and materials lists.
  • Support the identification and incorporation of all design and system requirements with engineers and other project team members.
  • Assist in developing designs and technical specifications for both whole sites, and specific systems such as heating, air conditioning, and ventilation (HVAC); water supply, processing, and storage; building control systems, etc.
  • Conduct interference and tolerancing assessments using 3D modelling software tools, identifying design conflicts and resolving with the appropriate engineers or other team members.
  • Provide technical instructions to supporting junior drafters to enable effective performance of their assigned activities.
  • Ensure effective and interactive working with other team members, sharing data in a timely coordinated manner and preventing "siloed" working.
  • Check the work performed by self and others meets the quality requirements in accordance with company QA programs and manuals, as well as the specific requirements of the customer and project scope.
  • Participate in formal and informal 3D model and design reviews as may be mandated for the design activities.
  • Support business development in the team through delivering quality on-time work, cultivating valued contacts with customer counterparts through technical excellence, and supporting the preparation of sketches and concepts for proposals as required.
  • Perform site walkdowns if required by the project or to accurately complete design work.
