Overview

Please note that this job posting is intended for you to express your interest in future opportunities within AtkinsRéalis.

AtkinsRéalis is looking for a dedicated Signaling Systems Engineer specializing in ETCS/ERTMS to join our Rail Control Systems team in Canada. This role offers the opportunity to work on some of the most significant and technologically advanced rail infrastructure projects currently being planned and executed across Canada.

You will provide technical expertise in the requirements definition, design, integration, and validation of signaling solutions for both urban transit and mainline rail environments.

Your role

  • Support the design and deployment of ETCS (Level 1 and 2) solutions, covering both trackside (wayside) and onboard equipment.
  • Develop clear and verifiable technical requirements for tenders and contracts, ensuring alignment with project objectives and industry standards. Assess the compliance of proposed designs or solutions against existing requirements, identifying gaps, risks, and non-conformity.
  • Apply deep knowledge of ERTMS Subsets (including Subset-026) and other relevant industry standards to ensure system functionality and interoperability.
  • Demonstrate good understanding of the requirements and constraints imposed by safety standards such as EN 50126, 50128, 50129.
  • Plan and conduct rigorous testing protocols to validate signaling solutions, ensuring they meet safety, performance, and operational requirements.
  • Analyze operational procedures to ensure technical solutions align with real-world rail environments and constraints.
  • Interface with manufacturers, operators, and stakeholders to coordinate technical specifications and resolve system integration challenges.

About you

  • Strong expertise in ETCS/ERTMS signaling including previous experiences with a signaling system manufacturer (OEM) or a rail operator is a strong asset.
  • Strong working knowledge of Subset-026 and/or other critical ERTMS subsets.
  • Proven ability to perform system validation or field testing for signaling systems.
  • Understanding of both onboard and trackside signaling components and how they interact.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Membership (or eligibility for membership) in a Canadian Provincial Professional Engineering Association (e.g., PEO, OIQ, APEGA) is a significant plus.
