How to prepare for the AtkinsRéalis immersive assessment

So, you're looking into AtkinsRéalis early careers opportunities, are you?

You might have come across a graduate scheme, placement, or apprenticeship and you're keen to apply, but what happens if your application is taken to the next stage? Well, the AtkinsRéalis immersive assessment is the next stage after the application.

If you've been wondering how to ace your immersive assessment with us, we've broken down our top tips on how to prepare.

What is an immersive assessment?

Immersive assessments are online tests that give you a glimpse into life inside of an organization. You are presented with example situational questions to respond to, so the company can determine how you would handle these if they were to arise in your role.

The main goal of any immersive assessment is to test an individual's skills, knowledge, and decision-making abilities. Expect to be engaged in interactive scenarios that reflect real life.

At AtkinsRéalis, our immersive assessment (previously known as the Atkins Immersive Assessment) takes a 'day in the life' approach where we've blended a few assessments together to make it easier for you. Getting a feel for what it's like to work for us is key and this is something you can sample in the assessment.

Our tests take approximately 45 minutes to complete and can take up to about an hour. They aren't timed though so you can have the time and space to be at your best. They are made up of situational judgement questions, and questions focused on numerical and verbal reasoning. The test concludes with three questions requiring short video answers which you'll have a chance to practice.

Preparing for the AtkinsRéalis immersive assessment

Now you have a clearer understanding of our immersive assessment and what to expect when it rolls around, it's time to start preparing.

We've broken down four ways you can prepare below.

1. Do your research

For our immersive assessment, we recommend you do some research on our values, mission, and projects as well as the industries we work in. We want to see how your passion shines through and relates to the role.

Ensure you have a clear understanding of the technical requirements of the placement, graduate scheme, or apprenticeship you're applying for

It pays to have a solid understanding of who we are and what we do because, after all, you could be joining us very soon in the next step in your career.

2. Practice answering situational questions

Our situational questions ask how you would handle different scenarios that could arise in your role to help us in our evaluation.

To prepare for this you can look into doing practice tests online. Make sure to take your time and don't rush any step in our recruitment process.

None of the steps are timed so you have the chance to read through everything thoroughly before answering.

3. Practice your numerical reasoning skills

For the numerical reasoning test practice plays a major role in doing well.

Revise and practice numerical reasoning questions beforehand and take practice tests in a similar environment to what you could expect in the real test and try not to rush through the questions.

4. Try not to stress!

We understand things like this can sometimes bring on some stress and anxiety. But don't worry, you're not alone. We prioritize mental health at AtkinsRéalis and we are proud of our wellbeing strategy.

Research ways of looking after yourself and your well-being in times like this. And remember, if you require any adjustments before taking any of our online tests, please make sure to get in touch with us beforehand so we can discuss this with you. You can find the relevant email address on the FAQ pages of the early career site, you can also check out some top tips for your immersive assessment on our apprenticeship selection process page.
