Engineering with purpose, balance, and belief: Tejaswini’s journey at AtkinsRéalis

For Tejaswini, engineering has never been just about the role she holds or the projects she delivers. It has been a journey shaped by continuous learning, adaptability, and a deep passion for creating designs that are not only technically sound, but meaningful.

With a Master’s degree in Structural Engineering, Tejaswini currently works as a Senior Engineer at the AtkinsRéalis Global Technology Centre, India. Over the years, she has built a strong foundation across rail and infrastructure projects, institutional and industrial buildings, and complex structural assessments, a breadth of experience that continues to shape her as a well‑rounded professional.

Building capability through diverse engineering challenges

Tejaswini’s career at AtkinsRéalis has seen her evolve from detailed analysis and design work into roles that demand broader responsibility and leadership. Her project exposure spans GRIP 4 and GRIP 5 designs, structural assessments, and bid support, giving her a holistic understanding of project delivery across multiple stages.
Alongside technical delivery, her role now includes leading design packages, coordinating across multidisciplinary teams, mentoring junior engineers, and contributing to designers’ risk assessments.
“I take pride in delivering safe, reliable, and efficient designs,” she shares, “while also contributing positively to the teams I work with.” Beyond work, Tejaswini finds balance and creative expression through badminton, singing, and artwork - interests that bring both energy and calm to her daily life.

A culture built on trust and accountability

What Tejaswini values most about AtkinsRéalis is the trust the organisation places in its people.

The culture here is built on accountability and mutual respect, she explains. We’re encouraged to work in ways that help us perform at our best. Flexible working, she notes, isn’t just a policy it’s genuinely practised and supported across levels. That trust allows individuals to take ownership of their work while still feeling supported by their teams and leaders.

A milestone defined by resilience and support

One of Tejaswini’s proudest accomplishments is not a single project or design, but her ability to maintain strong professional performance while transitioning into motherhood. Balancing a significant personal change alongside the demands of a technical role required adaptability, organisation, and resilience. With the support of AtkinsRéalis’ flexible and hybrid working culture, she was able to remain fully engaged in her role - meeting deadlines, upholding professional standards, and continuing to grow technically.

The empathy and trust shown by my managers and colleagues made a huge difference, she reflects.
It allowed me to work confidently and productively during a challenging phase of life. Rather than stepping back, Tejaswini continued to move forward - a reflection of both her determination and the environment that enabled it.

Growth through opportunity, ownership, and trust

AtkinsRéalis has supported Tejaswini’s professional development through meaningful opportunities and increasing responsibility. She has been trusted to take ownership of complex design packages, lead coordination efforts, contribute to bids, and mentor the next generation of engineers. These experiences have been instrumental in building not only technical depth, but also confidence and leadership capability.

Being trusted with responsibility encourages you to rise to the challenge, she says. It accelerates growth in ways that formal training alone never could.

Innovation driven by flexibility and clarity

Innovation, for Tejaswini, is closely linked to autonomy. AtkinsRéalis fosters creativity by empowering people with flexibility, trust, and the right tools. The freedom to structure work effectively allows engineers to approach problems with clarity and focus.
When you have control over how you manage your time, you naturally arrive at more thoughtful and creative engineering solutions, she explains - particularly when tackling complex structural challenges.

Inclusion that meets people where they are

Tejaswini sees flexible working as one of the strongest reflections of AtkinsRéalis’ inclusive culture.
It recognises that everyone has different responsibilities and needs, she shares. By allowing people to work in ways that suit them, the organisation creates space for everyone to succeed.  This approach, she believes, not only supports diversity, it strengthens performance, engagement, and long‑term commitment.

Collaboration across teams, locations, and disciplines

Teamwork at AtkinsRéalis thrives on open communication, clear roles, and mutual respect. Working across multidisciplinary teams is part of everyday project delivery. Regular coordination ensures expertise flows seamlessly across functions and locations, supported by hybrid working models that keep teams connected regardless of geography.
This collaborative culture makes it easier to solve challenges collectively and deliver integrated, high‑quality outcomes.

Work‑life balance that makes a real difference

Flexible working has been central to Tejaswini’s ability to balance professional responsibilities with personal life. It allows her to work in focused blocks, remain fully engaged with project delivery, and still be present for the moments that matter most outside of work. Knowing that my team trusted me to manage my responsibilities made a huge emotional difference, she shares.

Looking ahead

As AtkinsRéalis continues to embrace global collaboration and flexible ways of working, Tejaswini sees her role evolving with greater opportunities to contribute across diverse projects and collaborate with teams worldwide. She looks forward to continuing her journey - strengthening her technical expertise, deepening collaboration, and contributing meaningfully as the organisation grows.

If you’re looking for a workplace where trust, flexibility, and engineering excellence come together - where you can grow professionally without compromising what matters personally, this is your place. Join our team at AtkinsRéalis and build a career that supports both ambition and balance.
