Assistant Resident Engineer -MEP

Riyadh, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Overview

The Assistant Resident Engineer (MEP) supports the Resident Engineer in supervising and coordinating all Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) activities on-site. The role ensures that construction works are executed as per approved drawings, project specifications, quality standards, and local regulations in Saudi Arabia.

Your role

Site Supervision & Execution

  • Assist the Resident Engineer in overseeing MEP works including HVAC, plumbing, firefighting, electrical, ELV, and BMS systems.
  • Supervise contractors and subcontractors to ensure works are executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and project schedules.
  • Monitor daily site activities and ensure compliance with QA/QC standards.

Technical Review & Coordination

  • Review and verify shop drawings, material submittals, and method statements related to MEP works.
  • Ensure proper coordination between MEP and civil/architectural works to avoid conflicts and rework.
  • Liaise with design consultants, contractors, and stakeholders for technical clarifications.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Conduct inspections to ensure MEP installations meet international standards, local Saudi codes, and client requirements.
  • Monitor testing, commissioning, and handover processes of MEP systems.
  • Identify non-conformances and ensure corrective actions are implemented.

Progress Monitoring & Reporting

  • Track progress of MEP activities against project schedules and report any delays or risks.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports on site activities, progress, and quality issues.
  • Assist in evaluating contractor claims, variations, and progress payments.

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

  • Ensure all MEP works comply with site safety standards and Saudi HSE regulations.
  • Report unsafe conditions and ensure immediate corrective measures.
  • Participate in safety meetings and audits.

Testing & Commissioning

  • Supervise pre-commissioning, testing, and commissioning of all MEP systems.
  • Ensure proper documentation and compliance with project handover requirements.

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Communicate effectively with clients, consultants, and contractors.
  • Attend coordination meetings and provide technical inputs related to MEP works.

About you

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of MEP systems (HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, ELV, BMS).
  • Familiarity with Saudi building codes, SASO standards, and international codes (ASHRAE, NFPA, IEC).
  • Strong site supervision and coordination skills.
  • Ability to review technical documents and drawings.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Good reporting and communication skills.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • 6–10 years of experience in MEP construction supervision (building projects preferred).
  • Prior experience in Saudi Arabia or GCC is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of project management and supervision consultancy practices.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., PMP, UPDA, Saudi Council of Engineers registration) are an advantage.

Reporting Structure

  • Reports to: Resident Engineer / Project Manager
  • Works closely with: QA/QC Engineers, HSE Officers, Site Engineers, Contractors

  • Compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Accurate documentation and reporting.
  • Successful testing, commissioning, and project handove.
