Assistant Resident Engineer - Overground Stations

Overview

AtkinsRéalis is seeking an experienced Assistant Resident Engineer to oversee the construction of Overground metro stations as part of a major infrastructure development in Dubai. This role involves managing day-to-day site activities, ensuring compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and project timelines.

Your role

  • Oversee and manage the day-to-day construction activities for multiple Overground stations, ensuring that all work is completed according to design specifications, safety standards, and project timelines.

  • Coordinate and collaborate with contractors, subcontractors, and design teams to ensure efficient execution of the project and resolve any technical issues that may arise.

  • Ensure compliance with local regulations, international standards, and safety requirements throughout the construction of Overground stations.

  • Supervise all aspects of Overground stations construction, including structural works, MEP systems (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing), tunneling, and other critical components.

  • Monitor the overall progress of construction and ensure that any delays, disruptions, or issues are addressed and mitigated in a timely manner.

  • Review and approve construction method statements, work plans, and technical submittals related to the Overground stations.

  • Perform regular site inspections and quality control checks to verify that construction works are being carried out as per the contract documents and quality standards.

  • Act as the primary point of contact for any site-related technical queries and provide expert guidance and solutions to the team.

  • Maintain detailed records of site activities, including progress reports, site diaries, incident reports, and meeting minutes for submission to senior management.

  • Ensure that all work complies with environmental, health, safety, and welfare standards, and promote a safety-first culture on-site.

  • Liaise with the project management team to align construction activities with the overall project schedule and milestones.

  • Coordinate the preparation and implementation of risk management plans, ensuring potential risks are identified and mitigated throughout the project.

  • Lead and supervise the resolution of technical and engineering issues that may impact the progress of the Overground stations' construction.

  • Ensure proper document control and manage the submission of as-built drawings, inspection reports, and other project-related documentation.

  • Review contractor progress claims, variations, and payments, ensuring accuracy and compliance with the contract.

  • Facilitate the commissioning and handover process for the Overground stations, ensuring all systems and components are fully operational.

  • Will manage overground stations construction staff resources in the most effective way possible and they include Assistant Resident Engineers, Site Engineers and Inspectors.

About you

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field.

  • 15 - 18 years of relevant experience in the construction of Overground stations on large metro development projects.

  • In-depth knowledge of Overground station construction, including structural works, MEP systems, and station integration.

  • Strong understanding of local regulations, safety standards, and quality control measures in the UAE.

  • Demonstrated experience in managing large-scale construction projects, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, managing large construction staff resources, and resolving technical challenges.

  • Proficiency in project management software, construction scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with contractors, consultants, and stakeholders.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to make decisions under pressure.

  • Fluent in English (written and spoken); Arabic language skills are a plus.

  • Valid UAE driver's license (preferred).

  • Experience in the construction of OG stations on large metro developments, including multi-level structures and complex mechanical and electrical systems.

  • Familiarity with metro systems and the unique challenges associated with constructing transportation infrastructure.

  • Previous experience in managing high-volume, high-complexity projects in urban environments.
